Chongqing, Hong Kong, Macau Youths Stir Up Culinary Excitement in Hot Pot Soup Base Challenge

Chongqing - Chongqing hot pot, renowned for its distinctively spicy flavor, has captivated a global audience. On November 11, the Chongqing-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Nature Exploration Competition, themed Chinese Hot Pot - Spicy Flavors, was grandly convened in the Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone. 

This vibrant event guided Chinese and international youths on an immersive journey to discover the essence of Chongqing’s traditional culture and authentic culinary treasures. With a focus on online interaction, the event was designed to unfurl the rich tapestry of Chongqing’s traditional culture and gastronomic splendor to international audiences.

Amid the event, nearly 20 international students from Chongqing Medical University and Chongqing University of Science and Technology had the unique opportunity to visit two renowned hot pot restaurants. 

There, they delved into the art of crafting an authentic Chongqing hot pot soup base. Guided by seasoned chefs, these eager learners discovered the intricate use of a variety of Chinese herbs and seasonings integral to the hot pot base. They embarked on a culinary exploration, unraveling the secrets behind the hot pot’s signature spiciness.

The international students’ culinary adventure extended beyond mastering the base ingredients of the hot pot; they also engaged in the art of presentation and plating of hot pot dishes. Under the tutelage of experienced chefs, they honed their skills in precise cutting techniques and the optimal blanching times for various hot pot ingredients. 

Engaging hands-on in the cooking process, they savored the enjoyable yet challenging aspects of preparing hot pot dishes. Additionally, in a display of culinary competition, Chinese and foreign teenagers teamed up for a hot pot-making contest, showcasing their individual cooking talents and creativity to all present.

This event also featured a unique global dimension, with overseas anchors specially invited to guide audiences on a virtual tour of Chongqing hotpot restaurants in Melbourne, Australia, and Vancouver, Canada. They provided insights into the local presence and adaptation of Chinese hot pots in these cities.

Additionally, through engaging storytelling and vivid descriptions by these anchors, the rich culture and tantalizing flavors of Chongqing hot pot were brought to life for audiences in Melbourne and Vancouver. Such interactive exchanges and shared experiences served as a cultural bridge, extending Chongqing’s traditional culture and authentic cuisine across continents, fostering a deeper global appreciation and affection for Chongqing’s rich gastronomic culture.

This event did more than just deepen Chinese and foreign teenagers’ appreciation of Chongqing hot pot culture; it also served as a vital bridge in showcasing Chongqing’s traditional cuisine and cultural essence to the world.
