Chongqing - On November 25, the 2023 Chongqing International Cultural Carnival kicked off with grandeur at the Ciqikou Ancient Town, Shapingba District, Chongqing. Nearly 500 students from universities in Chengdu and Chongqing, alongside representatives from consulates in Chongqing, including Hungary, Belarus, Japan, and Myanmar, gathered for the spectacular opening ceremony.
The carnival's inauguration featured a vibrant international fashion show showcasing the confluence of traditional and modern cultures. Students from Chengdu and Chongqing universities adorned themselves in traditional attire from various countries, including Chinese Hanfu, Indian Sari, Moroccan Kaftan, and Indonesian Batik, presenting a unique fusion of traditional culture and contemporary trends.

The dynamic dance performances highlighted the opening ceremony, featuring the passionate Kazakh ethnic dance "Flowers" and the powerful Chinese folk dance "Trace·Leap." Attendees were treated to a blend of vitality and freedom from diverse cultures, coupled with a taste of the resilience and progress of Chinese culture.
The Chongqing International Cultural Carnival goes beyond the opening ceremony, encompassing events such as the International Cultural Market Exhibition, the University International Youth Talent Tour, and the International Music Show. With 44 distinctive booths, the International Cultural Market Exhibition is curated by students from Chengdu and Chongqing universities, along with live demonstrations of Chongqing's intangible cultural heritage. The event aims to facilitate multicultural exchange through cultural displays, food tastings, interactive games, and more.
During the opening ceremony, Wu Bian, the Chief Inspector of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, delivered a speech emphasizing Chongqing's commitment to leading and driving openness in the central and western regions. He highlighted the city's deepening collaboration with world-class universities, active participation in the "Belt and Road" education initiative, and promoting cultural exchanges with countries worldwide.
This year's Chongqing International Cultural Carnival aims to build a platform for "harmonious progress, mutual exchange, and innovative development" in humanistic communication. It aims to showcase Chongqing's image as a city of "openness, inclusivity, and vibrant fashion," enhancing the global influence and international competitiveness of the "Study in Chongqing" brand. The event actively serves the development of inland highlands and the construction of the international exchange center in the central and western regions.
