Chongqing - Chongqing now stands as China's largest metropolis, housing a staggering population of over 32 million. The city was once secluded by mountains and shaped by water, but how did its people break through geographical barriers and create an unparalleled, irreplicable super metropolis?

On December 25th, the new book titled Hi, I'm Chongqing was unveiled at the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, promising to comprehensively reveal the city's development secrets to the people around the world.

The book is planned by the Publicity Department of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, jointly produced by the Western China International Communication Organization (WCICO), and crafted by the professional geographic popular science institution "Institute for Planets", published by CITIC Publishing Group.

Three years of refinement, comprehensive presentation of new Chongqing

It took three years for the Institute for Planets to craft The book. Starting from Chongqing's natural geographical environment, the book narrates the adaptation, shaping, and creation of Chongqing residents on this land since ancient times, leading readers to understand the past and present of Chongqing and its people.

With over 200 exquisite photographic works, the book immerses readers in the landscapes of Chongqing, showcasing its spatial breadth. Dozens of scientifically crafted maps analyze the geographical and cultural depth of Chongqing, while concise text elucidates the length of Chongqing, revealing its broader connotations.

Geng Huajun, director of the Institute for Planets, said, "The original intention of this book is to tell the story of Chongqing to the world from a geographical perspective. In the past two years, there has been considerable attention paid to various internet-famous attractions in Chongqing. However, I believe the understanding, research, and exploration of various aspects of Chongqing are just beginning. We hope to initiate broader interest, understanding, and in-depth exploration of Chongqing with this book."

Book available online and offline

During the launch event, Chen Wei, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of CITIC Publishing Group said, "CITIC Publishing will utilize a three-dimensional content matrix to present a comprehensive and open image of the new Chongqing from multiple perspectives." CITIC Bookstore, a subsidiary, plans to organize a theme cultural exhibition titled "Encounter Chongqing: Diverse City, Future Reflection" at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport at the beginning of the new year, providing travelers with a tangible experience of Chongqing culture.

This reflects Chongqing's reverence for mountains and rivers in promoting the ecological and harmonious development of the city—a genuine aspect of Chongqing that we want to show the world."

Photographer Zhang Kunkun added, "Neither images nor words can define Chongqing because the soul and spirit of Chongqing are in the hearts of each of us, and each person has a different Chongqing in their hearts."
