Chongqing - On February 1, Liebherr Group expanded its operations in Chongqing, Southwest China, by signing a strategic partnership with Yongchuan District for its gear processing technology division, Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH.

The ceremony inaugurated Liebherr's gear processing and automation assembly base in Yongchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone, making it the headquarters for Liebherr's machine tool operations in China.

As a Fortune 500 leader in machinery manufacturing, the Liebherr Group operates over 150 subsidiaries globally. Its product range includes earthmoving machinery, mining equipment, maritime cranes, gear technology, automation systems, and aviation and transportation systems.

Yongchuan's policies and location made it a standout choice

"Liebherr's decision to anchor its China headquarters in Yongchuan is a testament to our commitment to tapping into the local market, where we see a burgeoning demand for our machine tools, driven by investment growth, market expansion, and bonded processing in China," said Manfred Kaut, managing director of Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH. 

"Yongchuan stood out due to its policy support and strategic location," he continued, highlighting the area's significance and industrial capabilities. 

Yongchuan, at the core of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, offers a strong industrial base, rich talent pool, and superior connectivity, making it a prime location for Liebherr's expansion in western China.

Chongqing's authorities, including Yongchuan and Chongqing Customs Districts, played a key role in facilitating the partnership with Liebherr by holding discussions at Liebherr's German headquarters and offering tailored services for smooth collaboration.

Future expansion to Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea 

Funded directly by foreign investment from Liebherr Machine Tools in Germany, this project created a new, independently registered foreign-invested entity within the Yongchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

As Liebherr Machine Tools' hub for production, sales, and service in China, the company will initially focus on serving domestic customers, with future expansion plans to Southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea.

Currently, the Yongchuan Comprehensive Bonded Zone is fast-tracking the construction of approximately 12,000 square meters of factory space to meet the enterprise's needs, aiming for a rapid transition from contract signing to production within the same year.

"The establishment of Liebherr's machine tool business headquarters in our zone symbolizes more than just acknowledgment of Yongchuan's industrial ecosystem and business-friendly climate; it signifies a deeper collaboration and enrichment of our partnership," said a key official from the Yongchuan District Government.

This partnership will significantly accelerate the creation of the machine tool bonded processing industrial park in southwest China. Yongchuan is at the forefront of this initiative, providing robust support to help businesses flourish and grow.
