Chongqing - Changan Automobile revealed its January 2024 sales figures, showcasing performance across its three key new energy brands: Qiyuan, Deepal, and Avatr, with sales reaching 10,578, 17,042, and 7,059 units, respectively.

In January's new energy vehicle sales rankings recently released by the China Passenger Car Association, Changan Automobile placed third with 51,109 units, behind BYD and Geely but ahead of Tesla, Wuling, and Li Auto.

Besides the sales of Changan's three major new energy brands, the 51,109 units also include the sales volumes of new energy models from its other traditional brands.

Changan Automobile's three new energy brands cater to distinct consumer segments. Deepal, with the earliest model launches, currently leads in sales. Qiyuan, introduced in May 2023 as the group's youngest brand, targets the younger generation, according to the brand's official introduction.

Avatr, Changan Automobile's high-end new energy vehicle brand, boasts advantages such as investment from the battery giant CATL and long-term technical support from Huawei. In January, Avatr delivered 5,021 units of Avatr 12 and 2,038 units of Avatr 11. While Avatr 11's sales align with its historical average, the Avatr 12, launched last November, showed strong performance, indicating it could be Avatr's leading model in the new year.

Changan Automobile previously reported its 2023 total vehicle sales at 2.55 million units, with over 470,000 being new energy vehicles from its brands. With negligible new energy sales from its joint venture, Changan Ford, the company's new energy vehicle ratio has surpassed 18%.

Many Chinese automakers have pivoted to new energy vehicles, recognizing the sector as the next major opportunity. In August 2023, Changan Automobile announced that by 2025, it will launch more than 20 products, including 6 Deepal models and 4 Avatr models.

By 2030, Changan Automobile expects to achieve group sales of 5 million units, of which 4 million will be Changan brand vehicles, with new energy vehicle sales accounting for more than 60% and overseas sales making up 30%.
