By ZHAN CHEN|Feb 21,2024

Chongqing - Chongqing's New Land-sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd. attended the Dragon New Year event in Yangon, Myanmar, on February 18, where China and Myanmar representatives discussed the New International Land-sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC).

Wang Yupei, the company's chairman, provided an in-depth overview of the ILSTC's development and the China-Myanmar railway. Wang's delegation showcased quality products from the corridor and gifted souvenirs to Myanmar's influential military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing commended the progress and discussed Myanmar's new consulate general in Chongqing. He expressed hope that the ILSTC would increase Myanmar's exports to China, thereby strengthening the economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chongqing opened on July 12, 2022, which has injected impetus into Chongqing-Myanmar's friendly interactions and cooperation.

The New Land-sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd. has bolstered China-Myanmar economic ties, with trade volumes surpassing 100 million yuan in 2023.

The current China-Myanmar intermodal transportation framework has two major routes. The Chongqing-Ruili/Wanding-Yangguang road-rail intermodal transportation reaches over ten Myanmar cities, including Naypyidaw and Mandalay. Meanwhile, the Chongqing-Myanmar-Indian Ocean road-sea route extends Myanmar's maritime reach into the Middle East, East Africa, and Europe through the Persian Gulf and Suez Canal.

The company plans to enhance resource integration and ensure the smooth operation of multimodal transport links between China and Myanmar, including rail-sea, cross-border highway, and railroad transportation.

This effort aims to maximize the ILSTC's impact on logistics, trade, and industry, introducing Myanmar's specialty products, such as rice and soybeans, to China and expanding into Central Asian and European markets.

Additionally, the company intends to introduce specialized products from the corridor to the Myanmar market, mainly supporting the growth of Myanmar's automotive and motorcycle industries, thereby elevating bilateral cooperation to new heights.

The New Land-sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd, established in 2017, is a pivotal organization aimed at implementing the national New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor master plan. It focuses on enhancing transportation and logistics services to facilitate trade between China and ASEAN nations, fostering growth and connectivity along vital trade routes.
