Chongqing - As the newly elected member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC), Zhang Rui, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, is actively engaged in addressing both major and minor aspects of natural resource management and planning. Alongside her responsibilities, she is dedicated to conducting inspections and research, contributing her expertise as a CPPCC member to support socio-economic development with insightful contributions.

Last year, during the national "two sessions," she submitted two proposals, with Challenges and Suggestions Regarding the Construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor being selected by the CPPCC National Committee for key supervision. Hosted by the Ministry of Transport, this proposal has become the "Number One Proposal" for this year's Chongqing "two sessions," receiving on-site attention and action from various departments.

"I am a member of the environmental resources sector, a newly established sector, meeting the needs of our evolving era," said Zhang. "Our primary task is to focus on constructing ecological civilization, coordinating development and security in areas such as carbon reduction, pollution control, and green expansion to contribute to building a beautiful China."

Zhang, basing her work on her responsibilities, has conducted extensive research, particularly focusing on the implementation of the core area planning in the "Two Rivers and Four Banks" region in Chongqing. This includes aspects such as ridge lines, waterfronts, skylines, and urban landscapes, identifying current issues and providing guiding suggestions.

"Downtown areas like Hongyadong scenic area attract a large number of tourists, and during peak times, Chongqing has even closed roads to accommodate visitors for a better tourism experience," said Zhang. She highlighted citizens' concerns about crowded pedestrian paths around the Hongyadong scenic area, especially during holidays, with tourists at times standing on roads to capture night views, posing risks due to the mingling of pedestrians and vehicles. Responding promptly, Zhang proposed widening the pedestrian paths by compressing the vehicle lanes' width, a suggestion approved in the planning phase.

After approval, Chongqing Yuzhong District quickly upgraded the surrounding pedestrian paths from the original 2.5 meters to an expanded 5.5 meters before the National Day holiday. Visitors outside the city praised Chongqing's commitment to enhancing the overall tourist experience.

In addition to addressing immediate concerns, Zhang and her team have also worked on long-term planning and control of the city's landscape. She initiated studies on the impact of elevated bridges and barriers along the Yangtze River, ensuring the city's natural scenery is preserved. By adjusting the alignment of Binjiang Road, her team planned riverside walkways, providing residents with a space for water-related activities and improving the overall quality of life.

Last August, the Beautiful Chongqing Construction Conference aimed to create a modern city where humans coexist harmoniously with nature. In response to this directive, Zhang compiled the "Overall Planning for the Urban and Rural Landscape of Beautiful Chongqing in the New Era," classifying Chongqing's landscape into four major types. The plan aims to address existing issues and weaknesses, shaping the urban and rural landscapes to be aesthetically pleasing and shared by all.

"Last year, the national newly-born population was only 9.02 million, indicating various real-life problems," noted Zhang. In addition to her professional duties, she has expanded her focus to the social welfare sector. Currently, she is researching to build a reproductive-friendly society, actively considering measures to address the current challenges faced by young people, such as the reluctance or hesitation to have children.

Through her role as a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Zhang continues to contribute her expertise to various aspects of Chongqing's development, ensuring a harmonious balance between economic progress, environmental preservation, and societal well-being.
