China's First Intelligent Management Project for Two-Wheeled Vehicles Launched

By YUTING CHEN|Mar 17,2024

Chongqing—The MotoCloud project, led by the China Chamber of Commerce for Motorcycles, was recently launched in Western (Chongqing) Science City. With a total investment of 300 million yuan (approx. USD 41.79 million), it is tailored to enhance road safety for two—and three-wheeled vehicles.

"The official name of 'MotoCloud' is the National Collaborative Management Platform for the road safety operations of two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles, based on end-to-Internet-cloud Technology," said Wang Shang, the project lead of MotoCloud. The project aims to promote the development of these vehicles towards electrification, intelligence, and connectivity.

Two-wheeled vehicles, including electric bicycles and motorcycles, play a vital role in urban transportation, providing significant convenience for people's journeys. China boasts over 100 million registered motorcycles, ranking second globally.

The MotoCloud platform utilizes AI big model technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) to develop an intelligent management platform tailored for two-wheeled vehicles.

It offers traffic management departments comprehensive decision-making support in urban traffic perception, safety assurance, accident handling, illegal vehicle inspection, police management improvement, and traffic signal optimization, facilitating smart city traffic management.

Wang explained that by using large AI models, MotoCloud enables traffic departments to monitor all two and three-wheeled vehicles, tracking their real-time status and routes without extra resources. This ensures prompt detection of traffic violations and emergencies and significantly enhances management efficiency.

Additionally, MotoCloud supports the intelligent enhancement of police motorcycles. By outfitting them with advanced onboard systems like wireless communication and video transmission, they gain features such as license plate recognition and dynamic emergency reporting, improving traffic police efficiency.

MotoCloud initiated a pilot in Urumqi, where large AI models and IoT effectively tackled management challenges for two and three-wheeled vehicles.

Wang said that MotoCloud will be extensively promoted in cities nationwide, actively exploring the utilization of big data, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence in various business sectors. This initiative aims to hasten the conversion of advanced technological breakthroughs into tangible capabilities for urban management services.

In the future, MotoCloud will use AI technology to propel motorcycle market growth, offer data support to industry enterprises, and enrich the after-service market for two-wheeled vehicles. This will enhance safety and riding services for users.
