Chongqing Strengthens Int'l Ties with Voronezh, Russia | Sister Cities

By YAN DENG|Mar 20,2024

Chongqing - In recent years, Chongqing has seized the opportunity to accelerate building the city into a Hub for International Exchanges in Central and Western China, continuously integrating and expanding foreign affairs resources.

The city has increased efforts to invite foreign entities and expand its presence globally. As a result, Chongqing's international network has grown, fostering broader exchanges with sister cities, solidifying partnerships, and paving the way for a wider path of friendship.

On October 20, 1993, Chongqing established sister city relations with Voronezh, Russia. Voronezh, founded in 1586, is steeped in history and holds significance as one of the earliest centers of Slavic culture. It remains a vital industrial, technological, and cultural hub in Russia.

The relationship between Chongqing and Voronezh has flourished over the years, marked by reciprocal visits, cultural exchanges, and collaborative ventures across various sectors.

Leadership delegations from Chongqing have made multiple trips to Voronezh. Similarly, Voronezh's Duma Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Deputy Mayors have reciprocated these visits, deepening their cooperation in economic, medical, educational, and cultural sectors.

Economic collaboration has been a focal point, with Chongqing frequently organizing trade promotion events and exhibitions in Voronezh. Key areas of cooperation include liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage technology, general machinery, and construction materials, where expertise and resources are shared for mutual benefit.

In the healthcare sector, Chongqing Third People's Hospital (Chongqing China-Russia Friendship Hospital) and Voronezh Eighth Hospital (Russia-China Friendship Hospital) joined forces to advance medical technology and expert training programs.

Furthermore, educational institutions on both sides have actively engaged in academic exchanges. Institutions such as Sichuan International Studies University, Chongqing University of Technology, Chongqing Vocational Institute of Arts, and Chongqing No. 8 Middle School have collaborated with Voronezh State University, Voronezh Technical University, and Voronezh Dance Academy.

In addition to these initiatives, media outlets from Chongqing, including Chongqing Daily and Chongqing Television, have fostered friendly relations with Voronezh news agencies.
