Chongqing's First Integrated Vehicle-Road-Cloud Campus Demo Activated

By YUTING CHEN|Mar 20,2024

Chongqing— On March 13, the first intelligent networked vehicle-road-cloud integrated campus demonstration scenario was inaugurated at the Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering.

"Through the construction of this scenario, we have established foundational capabilities for conducting research into the synergy of 'vehicle, road, cloud, and network' within the campus," stated Professor Tao Yaxiong, Dean of the School of Communication Engineering at Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering.

According to Tao, the deployment of the intelligent connected vehicle-road-cloud integrated campus demonstration scenario enhances students' research and practical conditions.

The campus demonstration scenario includes traffic signal poles equipped with radars and cameras of various sizes, realistically replicating the operational environment of intelligent connected traffic.

Under the guidance of their teacher, students can control an intelligent connected vehicle to drive on the road slowly and complete actions such as turning, obstacle avoidance, and docking.

Interdisciplinary collaboration provides intellectual support for projects

In addition to implementing intelligent systems and upgrading infrastructure for vehicles, roads, and cloud services, the construction of this setup also faced challenges from dense vegetation, numerous bends, narrow roads, and unreliable network coverage. These factors demanded more from algorithms and technology.

Li Zhangyong, Deputy Director of the Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center at Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering, revealed that in March last year, a research team was formed with 12 core teachers from various schools, including Intelligent Manufacturing and Automotive, Electronics and IoT, and Artificial Intelligence and Big Data.

Furthermore, the Western China Science City Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (WICV) incubated a talent cultivation enterprise for intelligent connected vehicles, West Qingyan, which participated in the project by upgrading the roadside intelligent sensing system, modifying autonomous vehicles, and constructing the cloud control system and the campus digital twin system.

This project has achieved intelligent information exchange, sharing, and processing among intelligent connected vehicles, roads, people, and the cloud within the campus scene.

The project can conduct research and services on intelligent vehicle-end systems, intelligent roadside systems, cloud control platform systems, and key electronic components, forming a distinctive research characteristic for the school in this field.

"Next, we will cultivate more technical talents for the intelligent connected vehicle industry by creating more such scenarios," said Tao. "Simultaneously, we will address technical problems for enterprises related to intelligent connected new energy vehicles and provide horizontal commissioned services for the testing and rectifying automotive electronic components."
