Chongqing- "The Chongqing East Railway Station hub is rapidly taking shape, and it is China's largest under-construction integrated transportation hub," said Wu Bo, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission, during a press conference on March 27.
Wu disclosed, "With the main structure and supporting towers expected to be fundamentally completed by year's end, the station's completion is synchronized with the Chongqing-Hunan high-speed railway in 2025."
Chongqing East Railway Station's scale is impressive: three fields, 15 platforms, and 29 lines, with a peak hourly passenger throughput of 16,000. Spanning 1,220,000 square meters - akin to 170 standard soccer fields - it's the largest high-speed railway station in the nation.
Located in Nanan District's Chayuan New Area, Chongqing East Railway Station is not just a station but a symbol of progress and connectivity. Positioned as a key node in national strategies like the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, Yangtze River Economic Belt, and New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, it will transform traffic patterns in eastern and southern Chongqing and invigorate modern Chongqing construction.
This landmark will notably improve connectivity, with seven high-speed railways providing quick access across the country and forming a "1-3-6 hours" high-speed rail circle covering a billion people. The station's comprehensive design also enables swift interchange between various transport modes, emphasizing accessibility and convenience.
Beyond a transportation hub, Chongqing East Railway Stations is a model of innovation and sustainability, built to the highest Green Building Label standard. It's projected to save 6.18 million kWh of electricity yearly and cut carbon emissions by over 8,000 tons. The station area will also include lush water systems, green corridors, smart travel services, and a comprehensive digital platform, showcasing the future of urban transport hubs.
Inspired by the beauty of Chongqing's mountainous landscape, the station's architecture is a masterpiece of design. Rhythmic water-drop skylights and robust tree-shaped pillars illuminate its grandeur, echoing the region's natural terrain's enduring strength and captivating allure.
The station's vicinity is set to evolve into an internationalized community, with initiatives for international schools, hospitals, and digital industries to attract and cultivate talent.
Officials from the Nan'an District government have articulated a vision for the Chongqing East Railway Station as a vibrant open gateway, fostering China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Project on Strategic Connectivity, China-ASEAN cooperation, and a catalyst for the Belt and Road initiative.
With aspirations to lure over 200 corporate headquarters and propel the gross regional product past 100 billion yuan (USD 13.8 billion) by 2030, the Chongqing East Railway Station serves not only as a transportation endeavor but as a foundational element for future development and prosperity.
