Chongqing—German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Chongqing on April 14 for his three-day visit to China. He was accompanied by a business delegation of leading German business executives, including Dr. Roland Emil Busch, Chairman of Siemens AG, Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, and Oliver Zipse, Chairman of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG.

In Chongqing, he first visited Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems (Chongqing) Co Ltd. The company was established in March of 2021 through a partnership between German engineering and technology company Bosch and Chongqing-based premium commercial vehicle manufacturer Qingling Motors.

Scholz visited the hydrogen power products and hydrogen fuel cell solutions produced and provided by the company. With the staff's explanation, he experienced the assembly of hydrogen power modules with great interest.

Yuan Jiajun, Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Hu Henghua, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Mayor of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, welcomed Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his delegation. 

Yuan stated that Chongqing actively implements the important consensus that President Xi Jinping and Chancellor Olaf Scholz reached, gives full play to local advantages, and strives to contribute to developing the China-German all-around strategic partnership. Chongqing is willing to take Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit as an opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two sides in logistics, industry, culture, and other fields and contribute to Chongqing's strength in developing China-German relations.

Scholz thanked Chongqing for its warm reception and strong support for German enterprises in Chongqing. He said that Chongqing has a sound momentum of modernization and a superior business environment, which left a deep impression on them. Germany is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with Chongqing, strengthen practical cooperation in economic and trade logistics, technological innovation, new energy, pharmaceutical and chemical industry, and other fields, and push bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Subsequently, Yuan and Hu held talks with the German economic delegation visiting Chongqing. The representatives said that Chongqing's economic and social development is in good shape, with a superior living environment and broad market space. They are willing to build on the good foundation of cooperation with Chongqing, strengthen communication and docking, and promote the digital economy, green and low-carbon development, modern manufacturing, technological innovation, and other fields. Cooperate to increase investment and project layout in Chongqing to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

In the afternoon, Scholz led the delegation to visit some popular attractions in Chongqing. He traversed the streets and alleys of Yuzhong District and visited famous landmarks such as Testbed 2 and Kuixing Tower. Later, Schultz headed to Jiangbeizui, where he learned from the faculty and students about the results of the long-standing collaboration between Chongqing University and Germany in water quality monitoring projects.

This research plan started in 2019. Chongqing University and the Kut-Schwarber Institute of Measurement and Sensor Technology jointly conducted ecological research on developing efficient detection technology and equipment for water environmental pollutants in environmental protection.
