Chongqing—A grandpa from Chongqing has brought over 6,000 species of flora and fauna "back to life" through the art of specimen-making. His work offers life a new form of continuity and showcases the beauty of biodiversity.

Tang Anke, a retired laboratory technician from the College of Life Sciences at Chongqing Normal University, has been devoted to the art of specimen-making for more than 40 years. With his skilled hands, he has created a wondrous "zoo" of flora and fauna at his home.

The 72-year-old, affectionately known as "specimen grandpa," tirelessly shuttles between his living room and balcony every day, engrossed in his craft. Despite his age and slowing pace, he has remained unwavering in his passion since retirement. His marvelous "zoo" now boasts over 6000 specimens of various sizes.

He believed these specimens are vital for biology education and science outreach, as they give elementary and middle school children a tangible grasp of animal and plant morphology and offer insights into biodiversity. He said this sparks their curiosity for nature and instills a love for it, respect for science, and appreciation for life. "This," he stressed, "is their greatest value."

Currently, his specimens have been displayed in over 40 public exhibitions, thanks to invitations from numerous primary and secondary schools.
