Chongqing - In recent years, Chongqing has seized the opportunity to accelerate building the city into a Center for International Exchanges in Central and Western China, continuously integrating and expanding foreign affairs resources.
The city has increased efforts to invite foreign entities and expand its presence globally. As a result, Chongqing's international network has grown, fostering broader exchanges with sister cities, solidifying partnerships, and paving the way for a wider path of friendship.
In January 2018, Chongqing forged a friendship agreement with San José Province, solidifying their bond as sister cities.
San José Province, one of Uruguay's 19 administrative regions, is nestled at the mouth of the La Plata River in the southern part of the country. With its capital in San José de Mayo, this province boasts a flourishing economy driven by industry and agriculture. But beyond its economic prowess, San José Province is also a haven for tourists, offering a plethora of natural wonders including pristine beaches and charming rural estates.
The bond between Chongqing and San José Province has been steadily growing brighter over the past few years, marked by several significant exchanges and collaborations.
By August 2018, the education authorities of Chongqing and San José Province inked a pact facilitating the exchange of teachers between the two regions.
In March 2019, San José Province sent a football coach to teach at the Chongqing Experimental Foreign Languages School, enhancing cultural exchange through sports.
In November 2021, Conaprole, a leading dairy company from San José Province, participated in the 14th China-Latin America Entrepreneurs Summit and Exhibition, showcasing the province's economic prowess on the international stage.
In January 2022, the Governor of San José Province extended New Year greetings to the citizens of Chongqing through a specially recorded video message.
In September 2023, marking the fifth anniversary of their friendship, representatives from San José Province visited Chongqing. They participated in the 2023 China International Meat Industry Expo and visited the Chongqing Library, where representatives from San José Province donated books showcasing the cultural heritage, traditional values, and arts of the province.
