Chongqing Hosts Over 210 Events for Cultural and Natural Heritage Day

Chongqing - Southwest China's Chongqing is poised to host the main events for the 2024 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of China's ratification of the "Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage." 

From May 18 to June 20, over 210 activities are being held online and onsite, with various districts and units utilizing cultural spaces such as intangible cultural heritage museums, historical and cultural streets, scenic spots, and more to offer diverse and vibrant activities.

The main event will take place from June 1-2 at Yangjiaping Pedestrian Street Cultural Square in Jiulongpo District. The event will feature an opening ceremony, a city-level competition, six thematic exhibitions, and 11 performances showcasing new advancements and successes in cultural heritage protection and utilization in Chongqing. 

It will highlight the unique cultural charm of Chongqing's tourism products and present the flourishing development and deep exchanges in culture, art, and tourism between Chongqing and Chengdu.

The opening ceremony will announce the first batch of Chongqing municipal cultural ecological protection zones, the 2024 "Intangible Cultural Heritage in Schools" excellent practice cases, and outstanding cases of "Intangible Cultural Heritage and Tourism Integration Development." 

The event will also feature distinctive cultural heritage exhibitions, including the annual Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Shopping Festival and the Ninth Chongqing ICH and Time-honored Brands Expo. One hundred eighty representative projects from Chengdu and Chongqing, time-honored brands and cultural and creative projects will be on display and for sale.

In addition, several activities will be held concurrently, such as Chongqing's inaugural Tea Culture Week, Shapingba District's ICH Shopping Festival and Exhibition, Chengdu-Chongqing Ancient Road Protection Achievement Exhibition and Millennium Rongchang Historical and Cultural Week, and Dazu District's Dragon Boat Race during the Dragon Boat Festival.
