Chongqing - Bridging News interviewed Yan Zhao, Mayor of Saratoga, California, at the 6th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT).
In the interview, Zhao shared her vision for economic and cultural cooperation between Chongqing and Saratoga. She highlighted Chongqing's progress in green development, especially her experience planting trees on Guangyang Island. She also discussed Saratoga's Climate Action Plan, which mandates electric heating in new buildings, EV chargers, strict tree removal regulations, and aims to reduce organic waste and increase food recovery by 2025.
As a Chinese-American mayor, she promotes cultural understanding between the US and China. For example, she distributed red envelopes during the Lunar New Year to explain Asian customs. Despite US-China tensions, she supports cultural exchange, business trade, and tourism to enhance mutual understanding. Zhao wanted to return to Chongqing to explore further economic collaboration opportunities between Silicon Valley and Chongqing.
