With the deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative, international technological exchanges and cooperation are becoming increasingly close. The Second Belt and Road International Skills Competition is set to open in Chongqing from June 24 to 26, with the automotive technology (new energy) project attracting much attention. 

This competition showcases the latest achievements in new energy vehicle technology and provides a platform for global technical talents to showcase their skills and communicate. We were fortunate to interview members of the project's expert group, including Yang Hao, an expert with a special allowance from the State Council, and Chen Guozeng, a Chongqing Industry and Trade Technician College teacher. We had an in-depth discussion on the relevant aspects of this competition.

Competition modules and skill assessment

Yang said that the competition for the automotive technology (new energy) project is primarily divided into two modules: vehicle fault diagnosis and the disassembly and assembly of the drive motor and power battery. These two modules are designed to comprehensively assess the contestants' mastery of new energy vehicle technology and their practical abilities. By simulating fault phenomena in actual working environments, contestants must conduct quick and accurate diagnosis and repair. This tests not only their technical skills but also their adaptability and teamwork abilities.

Chen added that in addition to technical skills, this competition also examines explicitly the contestants' ability to read English maintenance manuals. This requires contestants to have solid professional knowledge as well as good English reading and comprehension skills to adapt to technical exchanges and cooperation in a global context.

Competition significance and industry development

Yang believes holding this automotive technology (new energy) project competition is significant. First, it promotes close cooperation between schools and enterprises, aligning school teaching with market demands and industry development trends. Secondly, it improves the professional level of teachers and technicians, providing strong talent support for developing the new energy vehicle industry. Finally, it provides a stage for students to showcase their talents and stimulates their interest and enthusiasm in new energy vehicle technology.

Chen also emphasized that new energy vehicle technology, as a new track leading the technological wave of the new era, will bring profound changes to the global automotive industry. He called on more talents to join this field and jointly promote the development and progress of new energy vehicle technology.
