By HUXIN LUO|Jul 07,2024

Chongqing—Qin Changde, secretary of the CPC Chongqing Jiulongpo District Committee, stated on July 5 that efforts are focused on developing the Chongqing Hub Port Industrial Park to support the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC). The region's strong industrial base and manufacturing sector continuously enhance urban quality, highlighting its international charm.

Jiulongpo has played a significant role since the Hanyang Arsenal relocated to Chongqing in the 1930s as an economically strong district with a robust industrial base and a hub for innovation.

Over the past century, the district has developed 32 out of the 41 major industrial categories and hosts 408 municipal-level or higher innovation platforms. It is home to over 260,000 businesses, the largest number in Chongqing.

Jiulongpo is upgrading three parks: Huanglian Port Industrial New City, Light Alloy Industrial Park, and Ecological Science and Innovation Industrial Park. It also adds six more parks for hydrogen energy, aerospace, equipment manufacturing, specialized innovation, corporate innovation, and industrial incubation, forming the "One Port and Nine Parks" industrial structure.

Huanglian Port will launch in August, focusing on port processing exports, high-end services, and large-scale logistics. The development includes a bulk commodity trading center, a metal processing base, and an intelligent warehousing center, aiming for an annual cargo throughput of 1.7 million tons and a production value of 5 billion yuan (approx. USD 688.02 million).

The Light Alloy Industrial Park hosts 33  large-scale industrial enterprises, including Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd., which plans a 20 billion yuan (USD 2.75 billion) capacity expansion. The future focus will remain on the aerospace and transportation sectors to develop a new materials industrial hub.

The Hydrogen Energy Equipment and Storage Industrial Park, including major players like Bosch, aims to establish a national-level base for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles by 2027, targeting a 20 billion yuan output, shaping the "Western Hydrogen Valley."

Qin said that Jiulongpo has earmarked 25.88 million square meters of urban areas for redevelopment, aiming to enhance residents' quality of life and highlight Jiulongpo's distinctive charm, and completion is scheduled for 2027.

"Nostalgia is the root of hometowns, while the bustle of the market is the soul of the neighborhood," said Li Shun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Jiulongpo District Committee and District Mayor. "Minzhucun is a gem hidden in the city's old alleys, its radiance brought forth by urban renewal."

Li emphasized the revitalization of Minzhucun in the historic district through comprehensive renovations, focusing on enhancing safety, improving services, and preserving Jiulongpo's industrial heritage and Chongqing culture. Minzhucun's urban renewal now draws about 60 million visitors each year.

He also added efforts to support industrial markets, revive old-town traditional brands, and foster a variety of snack and beverage stalls. This blend of traditional and modern elements highlights the allure of the new urban landscape.
