Chongqing - Chongqing's Yubei District boasts a rare, comprehensive transportation hub in western China, combining air, rail, road, water, and subway connections. It has established the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) "air corridors" centered on the airport, leveraging these to strengthen its industries.
"Last year, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport handled 45 million passengers," said Yang Xiaoyun, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Yubei District Committee, at a recent press conference. Major railways and highways crisscross the area, with one-third of the city's rail mileage, forming a major multimodal transport hub and accelerating the flow of people, goods, capital, and information."
"The airport presents Yubei with significant opportunities," said Liao Hongjun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Yubei District Committee and Mayor of Yubei District. "Over the years, Yubei's GDP has grown from 1.7 billion yuan to 244.2 billion yuan last year."
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport connects 231 cities worldwide and has ranked among China's top ten for passenger and cargo throughput for six years. It hosts eight base airlines, forming a global route network that connects domestically and covers Asia, Europe, America, and Oceania.
Yubei has built a logistics network with 114 domestic and over 60 international flight destinations, forming ILSTC "air corridors." The China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Aviation Logistics Industry Demonstration Base was created to attract companies like SF Express. Nearly 400,000 tons of goods are transported globally from this base each year.
Leveraging air corridors, Yubei achieved over 160 billion yuan (USD 22 billion) in imports and exports last year, accounting for a quarter of Chongqing's total. National policies like the Airport Economic Demonstration Zone and the Free Trade Pilot Zone have facilitated enterprise expansion into international markets.
Yang stated that one in every three cars produced in Chongqing and one in every twenty mobile phones produced globally are made in Yubei. OPPO, which ranks fourth in the global mobile phone market, notably contributes to this impressive production.
Located in the Lianglu-Cuntan Free Trade Port Area, the OPPO Smart Eco-Technology Park leverages transportation advantages to expand exports, reaching 8.2 billion yuan in export trade volume and exporting approximately 8.75 million units in 2023. It also promotes the collaborative development of leading and supporting enterprises. OPPO's output value has exceeded 35 billion yuan for three years, averaging 100 million yuan daily.
The automotive industry's shift to intelligent, connected new energy vehicles is accelerating. The new Changan Automobile Yubei factory can produce over 280,000 new energy vehicles annually, with an output value of 50 billion yuan. The Seres Auto Super Factory, featuring 100% automation in key procedures, generates an annual output value exceeding 60 billion yuan with models like the AITO M9.
