Chongqing - On July 26, the China (Chongqing) - Myanmar Economic and Trade Exchange Fair took place in Chongqing to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

At the fair, representatives from over 10 Myanmar associations, businesses, and over 40 Chongqing companies discussed industries, including beans, rubber, food processing, edible oil, automotive, and transportation logistics.

Su Su Htwe, a member of the Myanmar International Freight Forwarders’ Association, mentioned that she has secured business partners and is actively engaged in trading. She has also discussed with these partners how they can support her trading products.

The standard route begins in Yangon, travels through Myawadi and Laem Chabang, and concludes in Chongqing. She observed that the fair might provide additional logistical options.

Deng Wennian,  an official with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chongqing Committee (CCPIT Chongqing Committee), pointed out that the delegation primarily comprises agricultural representatives. He emphasized that Myanmar's abundant agricultural output and Chongqing's large market create significant opportunities for agricultural cooperation, especially with the advancements in the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC).

In the first half of 2024, the import and export volume between Chongqing and Myanmar was 860 million yuan (USD 118.6 million). Deng said the next step is to form the ILSTC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alliance to boost trade, improve supply chain cooperation, and achieve mutual benefits.

Organized by CCPIT Chongqing Committee and UMFCCI, with support from the Myanmar Consulate in Chongqing, the fair gathered over 130 participants from relevant departments, business associations, and enterprises from both regions. It marks a new beginning for cooperation and promises to enhance bilateral trade.
