The State Council, China's cabinet, officially approved the establishment of the Chongqing International Railway Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone on April 30, 2024, covering an area of 0.75 square kilometers. The zone, the seventh comprehensive bonded zone in Chongqing, adds a significant boost to the city's export-oriented economic development.
Chongqing International Railway Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone is located within the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, adjacent to Chongqing Railway Port, seamlessly connecting with the China-Europe Railway Express and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. It boasts significant geographical advantages and diverse port functions.
This area has established functions as a port of entry for imported vehicles, a designated supervision site for imported meat, and an international mail exchange bureau. The cumulative total value of goods transported by international trains departing from here has exceeded 500 billion yuan ($69.14 billion) over the years.
The first phase of investment in the comprehensive bonded zone is approximately 175 million yuan, focusing on constructing facilities like the checkpoints and the customs monitoring command center. According to the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, it is scheduled to apply for formal inspection and acceptance in May 2025.
The zone's development plan focuses on three major industry bases: automotive, equipment manufacturing, and cold chain. Additionally, it will promote service trade functions such as research and development, design, testing and maintenance, procurement and distribution, and exhibition and sales. The goal is to create an export-oriented industrial cluster targeting countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Upon completion, the zone will fully leverage the synergistic development advantages of "corridor + port + bonded zone," efficiently connecting the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the China-Europe Railway Express (Chongqing). This will facilitate the mutual promotion and integration of international markets such as ASEAN and the EU with the domestic market, providing high-quality "bonded +" services for Chongqing's rail-adjacent export-oriented industries.
