19th China Int'l Mountain Outdoor Sports Open to Hold in Chongqing

Chongqing - The 19th China International Mountain Outdoor Sports Open (Chongqing Wulong) is set to take place from September 7 to 10, 2024, in Wulong District, Southwest China's Chongqing. 

Recognized as one of the top three most influential, largest, and highest-level mountain outdoor sports competitions globally, this year's event promises an even higher level of competition. The top five international outdoor sports teams and the top ten domestic teams have registered to participate, and so far, over 40 teams have signed up, each comprising four members from various countries and regions, including Russia, New Zealand, France, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, and China.

The event's course has been designed to highlight the stunning natural landscapes of Wulong, part of Chongqing's renowned mountainous terrain. The route encompasses iconic sites such as the Wulong Karst World Natural Heritage Tian Keng (sinkholes) and Di Feng (fissures), alongside scenic spots in some of China's most beautiful villages and 5A-rated national tourist attractions. 

The race route is divided into four stages, covering approximately 241.4 kilometers. The competition's various events, including trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, swimming, orienteering, downhill racing, backpacking, carrying sleds, rafting, and caving, further enhance the event's excitement, challenge, and appeal.

In addition to the main event, the 2024 National Hiking Conference (Chongqing Wulong Station) will be held on September 7, with a 20-kilometer route through the scenic Fairy Mountain National Forest Park, drawing over a thousand hiking enthusiasts. The event will also feature various fitness activities to foster the integration of high-level competition and public fitness, offering the public more opportunities to participate in and experience outdoor sports.

Moreover, the China Mountaineering Association will concurrently host the "2024 National Outdoor Safety Education Program—Scientific Fitness Hiking Activity," which aims to raise awareness of outdoor safety, promote the principles of "scientific, safe, and environmentally friendly" outdoor sports, and encourage the healthy and sustainable development of outdoor activities.

Since its inception in 2003, the China International Mountain Outdoor Sports Open (Chongqing Wulong) has continuously elevated its competitive standards and international influence. It has become an essential platform for showcasing China's openness to the world, injecting vitality into Wulong’s development, and significantly contributing to the district's sports industry and overall economic and social progress.
