On August 25th, the world's first 1:1 replica of the Monkey Suit in the 3A game masterpiece Black Myth: Wukong appeared at the Dazu Rock Carvings Scenic Spot, one of the main shooting locations, and was taken as the first station for the debut.
The Monkey Suit, which includes a full set of armor, peacock feathers, and the golden cudgel, weighs 46 jin. It took more than 2,000 working hours to complete, whose creativity, design, and production have a very deep origin based on the Dazu Rock Carvings.
The Temple Worker Team from bilibili.com completed the whole suit. "We set up three months before the game was released." To Zhou Jiawei, the core member of the team, it is very challenging to bring the suit back to life since there are too many accessories and the collocations are also very complex.
For example, size, shape, color, substrate, thickness, and the assembly process between different layers need to be carefully considered. Moreover, it also involves the combination of different materials, such as brass, gold, jewelry, leather carving, iron art, and so on.
"We found key clues from the Heavenly King statue beside the Cave of Vairocana's Bodhimandala at the Dazu Rock Carvings Scenic Spot and completed the lock design, the most critical part of the armor," said Zhou Jiawei.
The Dazu Rock Carvings retain the original style of life of the Song Dynasty ancestors. In addition to the shock brought by the scene, it also contains valuable clues, such as the shapes and styles of Chinese armor during the Tang and Song dynasties. Accessories, such as little locks and rivets but also intricate patterns, can all be recognized clearly in carvings.
"Black Myth: Wukong was set at the Dazu Rock Carvings Scenic Spot and supported by numerous clues of cultural relics and cores," said Zhou Jiawei. He hoped to see more traditional Chinese cultural elements in games, movies, and other works shortly.
