Chongqing - On September 6, Chongqing achieved a milestone in cross-border e-commerce by successfully exporting four new energy vehicles (NEVs) produced by BAIC, one of China’s leading automobile manufacturers.
These vehicles, inspected and declared in the Chongqing Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone, are set to be shipped to Türkiye via the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), utilizing both rail and sea transport. The Chongqing Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone is located within the Xiyong Micro-electronics Industrial Park in Shapingba District, Chongqing.
This marks the first time entire vehicles have been exported from Chongqing using a cross-border e-commerce model. This innovative method strengthens the synergy and establishes Chongqing as a key hub for exporting intelligent, connected new energy vehicles.
"By leveraging cross-border e-commerce platforms, we can now reach end customers directly, reducing export prices and boosting our competitiveness in foreign markets," said a representative of Chongqing Hengdong Automobile Sales Co., Ltd.
Chongqing Hengdong, focused on automotive cross-border exports, started operations in April at the Xiyong Cross-Border E-commerce Industrial Park. The Chongqing Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone has played a key role in nurturing a strong cross-border e-commerce ecosystem, attracting major platforms such as eBay, Google, Taobao, and Tmall.
To facilitate this pioneering export, Xiyong Micro-electronics Industrial Park collaborated with the Customs Department to introduce green channels service. These include reducing the required declaration elements from 14 to 6, streamlining vehicle entry and exit, and efficient inspection within the zone.
In the first half of 2024, Chongqing produced 1,242,200 vehicles, leading the country. Three hundred ninety-one thousand of these were new energy vehicles, an increase of 1.5 times. The Xiyong Cross-Border E-commerce Industrial Park reported a turnover of 7.1 billion yuan (about USD 1 billion) from January to August, with a 15-fold increase in goods inspections year-on-year.
The park has successfully exported a wide range of products, including automotive parts, contributing to the growth of the city's cross-border e-commerce sector.
"The next step for Xiyong is to develop a base and industry alliance for exporting whole and used cars, establishing a new cross-border e-commerce track for the automotive industry. This will support more ‘Made in China’ and ‘Made in Chongqing’ vehicles and accessories in reaching global markets," said a park official.
