Chongqing - On September 23, 2024, the "High-Quality Development Research Tour" commenced in Chongqing to explore successful strategies for sustainable development. The first stop was Minzhu Village, located in the Jiulongpo District, a model for urban renewal that prioritizes humanistic care and residents' participation.

During the renovation process, significant resources were dedicated to transforming old residential areas' chaotic, cluttered surroundings. Efforts were made to conceal overhead wiring, allowing residents to enjoy a cleaner, more scenic view of their neighborhood. This attention to detail reflects a commitment to enhancing the village's quality of life.

The village canteen serves as a vibrant social hub, where residents gather for meals and various activities, including card games and art classes. "We come here every day; it’s wonderful to have this space in our village," remarked a group of elderly ladies, highlighting the importance of social interactions in enhancing village well-being. During each mid-autumn festival, the staff of Minzhu Village will also build up a stage outside the canteen for residents to showcase their self-made performances, fostering a sense of belonging in the village.

At a village forum organized by the "Three Masters Workstation" - comprising planners, architects, and engineers - residents expressed their heartfelt connections to the area's natural environment. One elderly lady passionately advocated for the preservation of the trees, a symbol of her childhood and the village itself. "The trees represent Chongqing and have been with me through the childhood years," she said. The project manager of the renewal, Wang Bo, noted, "The residents here have deep feelings for the big tree. They not only want it preserved but also suggest that we regularly trim its branches to avoid obstructing light and ensure safety during windy conditions." Such village engagement exemplifies a deeper level of participation in village management.
