Overseas Chinese Propel Investment in Chongqing's Cultural Tourism

Chongqing - On September 24, the "Telling Chongqing to the World" event was held in Southwest China's Chongqing, gathering overseas Chinese and friends from around the globe to celebrate friendship, discuss cooperation, and explore development.

Zhu Mao, Deputy Director-General of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, stated, "Overseas Chinese and their families have significantly supported the development of Chongqing's cultural tourism, leveraging their unique strengths to connect China with the world. This has attracted many individuals from various sectors to visit Chongqing for tourism and investment, positively impacting the city's economic development, cultural exchange, and international relations."

"We encourage everyone to actively engage with the Belt and Road Initiative, identify key opportunities in the cultural tourism sector, and serve as a bridge to enhance communication between China and the world. This will attract more overseas cultural tourism projects to Chongqing and promote its unique cultural offerings globally," Zhu added.

Yao Zheng, Chairman of Hong Kong Jie Feng Group Ltd, stated, "Chongqing's unique 8D magic and cyberpunk landscapes have garnered widespread attention. More travelers and social media influencers are sharing their experiences of the Chongqing tour, creating a buzz."

He suggested enhancing cultural tourism collaboration between Chongqing and Hong Kong, saying, "We should establish a regular communication mechanism and explore new cooperation models. It's crucial to seize opportunities during international events in Hong Kong to elevate Chongqing's profile on the global stage."

The event facilitated six investment projects worth over 1 billion yuan (about $0.14 billion), spanning various sectors such as cultural tourism and island development. For instance, a partnership between the Myanmar Mergui Archipelago Tourism Development Group and the Chongqing-Myanmar Group secured 350 million yuan for tourism development. Additionally, an agreement was signed between the Indonesian Daxinhua Tourism Group and Chongqing Xingqianli Cultural Tourism Group to exchange 60,000 tourists over three years, targeting 300 million yuan in revenue.

Chongqing Tourism Promotion Ambassador Martin Hinkens, who has lived in the city for ten years, shared his affection for Chongqing's culture. "I love the spicy hotpot and the vibrant street life," he said. "Chinese cuisine always surprises me."

Qi Huifang, Co-Chair of the China and New Zealand Business Council, described Chongqing as "a lively, exciting, and delicious city—one you never want to leave." She highlighted the potential for collaboration between Chongqing and New Zealand in the film and creative industries.

The event also featured nine representative cultural tourism projects in Chongqing, including the Dazu Rock Carvings at Baoding Mountain, the Mingyue Tianxiang Resort, and the Shuanggui Rural Experience.

Additionally, the conference showcased the city's rich and diverse cultural tourism offerings. A cultural tourism photo exhibition, displays of unique products, and intangible cultural heritage performances allowed both domestic and international guests to immerse themselves in Chongqing's culture and experience its charm.
