Chongqing - Recently, Clarivate Analytics updated its Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, revealing that Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT) has made significant strides in research excellence. The university now boasts four disciplines—engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, and Chemistry—ranked in the top 1% globally.

Among these, the Computer Science and Engineering disciplines are ranked at 1.648‰ and 1.889‰ in the global ESI rankings, respectively. Notably, the chemistry discipline has debuted in the top 1% of the world, marking a significant milestone in its academic development and affirming its status among high-level international disciplines.

During the reporting period, CQUPT’s Chemistry department published a total of 536 SCI papers, with an impressive total citation count of 7,929 and an average citation frequency of 14.79 times per paper. Six of these papers were recognized as Highly Cited Papers.

The ESI database includes citation data from over 12,000 academic journals and is widely recognized for its representativeness in evaluating research performance. The ESI indicators serve as a benchmark for assessing the research capabilities of universities and institutions, with high-citation scientists often seen as potential Nobel laureates. The current data covers publications and citations from January 2014 to June 2024.

Additionally, on September 24, the Nature Index updated its rankings, covering the period from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024. Harvard University topped the list of global universities, followed by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in second place. Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications showcased remarkable performance, securing a spot among the top 200 universities in mainland China.
