Chongqing - On October 25, the first Liangjiang International Annual Medical Conference was held in Southwest China's Chongqing. The conference featured a main forum on "AI-Empowered Future Medicine" and four specialized sub-forums focused on medical innovation and translational medicine, innovation in Sino-Singapore hospital management, research and development in pediatric rare diseases, and surgical innovation driven by digital medical technology.
The conference attracted a distinguished lineup, with ten international experts from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore delivering keynote presentations alongside 17 prominent experts from Chinese institutions such as Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Over 500 attendees, including renowned medical professionals, scholars, health administrators, and hospital leaders, gathered to discuss the future of medicine.
Li Pan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission and Director of the Chongqing Administration of Disease Prevention and Control, highlighted Chongqing's commitment to health as a strategic priority. He noted the municipality’s dedication to creating a high-quality healthcare system through initiatives like Healthy China Chongqing, which has contributed significantly to the development of health services in the Western region.
Li emphasized that the conference represents an opportunity to build a high-level platform for medical collaboration and innovation in Chongqing, adding that it aligns with the city's efforts to drive high-quality health development.
"Future medicine will be a profound fusion of technology and human intelligence, a perfect convergence of life sciences and information technology. As a powerful new force, AI technology is gradually transforming how medicine is practiced in diagnosis, treatment, and health management. AI-enabled future medicine will drive deeper medical research, paving new paths for disease prevention and treatment," said Academician Chen Xiaoyuan, Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS), Fellow of the Academia Europaea, and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Endowed Chair Professor of the National University of Singapore.
He calls on all experts to actively engage in the field of future medicine, working together to open a new chapter in its development.
He Zhaohua, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, said, "The conference offers an excellent platform for talent exchange, knowledge sharing, and cross-border innovation, aligning with China's vision of building a global health community."
Zhao Shiqing, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress, congratulated the conference on its successful launch. He shared that Chongqing, the only municipality in central and western China, is committed to developing as a strategic hub and supporting the nation’s medical advancement.
During the opening ceremony, four major hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and Chongqing Medical University Affiliated Children's Hospital, joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Hospital Cooperation Alliance, marking a significant step in international healthcare collaboration.
The Liangjiang International Annual Medical Conference, guided by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission and hosted by the Chongqing Hospital Association, will be held annually in Chongqing, rotating among the city's leading hospitals.
Positioned as a national platform for global medical exchange and a health cooperation hub for China's central and western regions, the conference aims to enhance international medical collaboration. Each year, it will bring together healthcare experts and policymakers from around the world in Chongqing to foster knowledge-sharing and mutual advancement in medical science, clinical technology, and health innovation, supporting Chongqing's development as a regional center for international exchange.
