Agricultural Industry Park in SW China's Chongqing to Feature Asia's Largest Citrus Sorting Workshop

By YAN DENG|Oct 30,2024

Chongqing -   A modern agricultural citrus industry park in Southwest China's Chongqing is nearing completion, which will feature Asia's largest citrus sorting workshop and the region's largest cold chain logistics base for agricultural products, according to a press conference on October 29.

Zhongxian County in northeastern Chongqing announced its "double hundred billion" goal for 2027, aiming to become an innovation hub for specialty industries in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, targeting an economic output of 100 billion yuan  (USD 14.03 billion) by 2029.  This plan includes developing six modern industry clusters—each worth over 100 billion yuan—in sectors like new energy materials, chemical raw pharmaceuticals, intelligent manufacturing equipment, prefabricated building components, grain and oil processing, and fruit and vegetable processing.

The county has already established Southwest China's largest bases for liquefied natural gas processing, chemical raw pharmaceutical production, and noodle processing. It's planned to double the number of technology-based and high-tech enterprises, targeting over 600 technology companies and 60 high-tech firms by 2027. Efforts focus on fostering an ecosystem that supports innovation and collaboration between educational institutions and industry, aiding local business growth, and advancing technological breakthroughs from labs to markets.

Key infrastructure projects, including the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, which will open in April 2027, will cut travel time from Zhongxian to downtown Chongqing to just 36 minutes. Additional completed projects will enhance logistics and transportation routes throughout the region, boosting economic growth and accessibility.

Additionally, Zhongxian County is set to capitalize on its tourism potential as a pivotal player in the Yangtze River Three Gorges' international golden tourism belt. To drive cultural and tourism development, the county will highlight local attractions and host events such as the Yangtze River Three Gorges Marathon and various sports competitions.

Taking advantage of the Yangtze River National Cultural Park (Chongqing section) project, Zhongxian has established the Huanghua City Archaeological Site Park and is working to apply for World Heritage status. The aim is to recreate the historical scene of the ancient Southern Song Dynasty city, which was uniquely built on an island.

To elevate the quality of its tourist offerings, the county is enhancing the Shibaozhai scenic area and building the Zhongxian-Shibaozhai Expressway to develop a national 5A-level tourist destination. The county is also focused on preserving and utilizing the rich cultural heritage of the Yangtze River through projects like Duzhujing Village, Linjiang Park, and Dongpo Garden.

Zhongxian County is committed to strengthening its cultural and tourism brand. It is launching the "Travel with the Events" initiative, hosting high-profile activities such as the Chongqing Zhongxian Marathon, dragon boat races, and e-sports competitions. The "Taste the Flavors to Travel" campaign will showcase local cuisine through the "Zhongxian Flavor Hundred Bowls" initiative.

Additionally, the county is developing the "Experience Homestays to Travel" brand, featuring premium accommodations in charming spots like Lijia Courtyard and Dawan Village. Together, these initiatives mark a pivotal step in establishing Zhongxian County as a vibrant cultural and tourism hub where tradition and innovation meet to shape an unforgettable destination for both residents and visitors alike.
