Chongqing - Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has recently launched a suite of innovations to optimize the business environment for cross-border trade, focusing on digital transformation in air cargo services.

These enhancements are part of the airport's ongoing efforts to create a seamless, "one-stop" aviation service experience, with particular benefits for companies engaged in high-stakes international trade.

One recent milestone in this transformation was reached on October 16 when Hewlett-Packard (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. successfully shipped over 670 kilograms of laptops from the airport. For the first time, the shipment's Hazard Classification and Identification Report for Transport of Goods was processed using a new direct mutual recognition model, enabling faster online confirmation and significantly reducing wait times. This streamlined approach marks a departure from previous procedures, where dangerous goods shipments involved lengthy clearance processes.

HP, the first major computer brand to establish operations in Chongqing, has played a pivotal role in the city's evolution as a global electronics manufacturing center. Since building its PC production base and R&D hub in Chongqing, HP has empowered local suppliers like Quanta Computer and Inventec to adopt intelligent manufacturing techniques, resulting in cutting-edge digital factories and workshops. In September 2023, HP's Chongqing base celebrated a milestone as the 400 millionth laptop rolled off the production line, reinforcing the city's status as a manufacturing hub that now supplies nearly one-third of the world's laptops.

At Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, a key change to dangerous goods processing requirements has streamlined the export process. Previously, freight forwarders and cargo owners had to obtain paper-based identification reports from multiple agencies, a time-consuming process that raised costs and potential delays. However, with authorized information-sharing now in place, Jiangbei's information system receives the dangerous goods appraisal reports directly, enabling instant data access and verification. 

"We've consolidated the entire process into one online operation, from receiving cargo to processing dangerous goods," said Chen Bin, head of the international cargo department at Chongqing Airport Group Co., Ltd. "This new approach enables immediate data sharing and recognition."

"Safety and speed are essential for us in cargo transportation,” said Wang Dengmin, project leader at Hewlett-Packard (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. "Today, it takes less than five minutes to confirm a Hazard Classification and Identification Report for Transport of Goods, solving a major issue for us. The entire logistics process has also become more transparent and traceable, providing added assurance."

Since adopting the direct mutual recognition model, Jiangbei International Airport has facilitated over 1,500 exports of dangerous goods, amounting to more than 24,000 pieces and over 1,500 tons of cargo.
