Lima, Peru - On November 6, the 2024 China-Latin America Civilizational Dialogue Conference opened in Lima, Peru, with the launch of the foreign language editions of the book series Six Perspectives of the Chinese Modernization, published by Chongqing Publishing Group. These editions include English and Spanish versions.
The book series is edited by Dr. Jiang Hui and jointly written by over ten experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and other related fields in China. The main contributors include leading research teams from renowned institutions such as CASS and Northeastern University. The series explores Chinese-style modernization through six dimensions: worldview, values, historical perspective, civilization perspective, democratic perspective, and ecological perspective. Its aim is to clearly articulate the theoretical and practical innovations of Chinese-style modernization, highlight its distinct characteristics, unique advantages, significant value, and major contributions. Balancing academic rigor with accessibility, this series serves as a thematic, richly detailed, and engaging introduction to popular theoretical concepts.

At the launch ceremony, Guan Hong, Executive Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Chongqing Municipal Committee, stated that the publication of the foreign language editions of the book series will help to present a reliable, admirable, and respectable image of China. This will enable the world to understand the success of Chinese-style modernization, enhance the international community's recognition and understanding, and contribute to building a shared future for mankind, as well as to promoting world peace and development.
Chongqing is actively advancing its local practice of Chinese-style modernization, narrating its "land-sea story"—connecting to the sea via the Yangtze River Golden Waterway and linking Europe and Asia through the China-Europe Railway Express. The city is also telling its "urban story"—exploring new pathways for modern governance of megacities, establishing sister-city relationships with over 20 provinces, states, and cities across Latin America, deepening cultural exchanges, and fostering mutual cooperation for shared prosperity.
A diverse and colorful civilization and multiple paths to development are what the world should look like. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Latin America community with a shared future. Chongqing will work with Latin American countries to share the abundant outcomes of the Belt and Road Initiative, share the opportunities in the construction of modernized New Chongqing and comprehensively deepen economic, trade, and cultural exchanges and cooperation. Chongqing is committed to contributing to the stable and long-term development of China-Latin America relations in the new era.

Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's initiative to build a community with a shared future between China, Latin America, and the Caribbean (LAC), Guan added, "Chongqing will join Latin American countries in sharing the significant achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative, highlighting the opportunities of Chongqing's modernization, and deepening regional and cultural exchanges. We're committed to contributing to a steady and fruitful new era for China-Latin America relations."
María Fernanda Pampín, Director of Publication Department at the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), addressed the audience via video, noting the importance of the new editions for Latin American readers. "China's modernization path offers a unique choice in the history of global modernization. Through this series, Spanish-speaking readers, especially those in Latin America, can gain a clearer perspective on China's modernization journey."
