Chongqing - Bishan District in Chongqing hosts BYD's first and largest Blade Battery production base, producing a new battery every six seconds. As shared in a November 8 press conference, Blade Battery accounts for 70% of the city's total power battery output.

BYD's auto sales have soared from 427,000 units in 2020 to 3.02 million last year, with projections to surpass 4 million this year—growth primarily driven by the groundbreaking Blade Battery.

Launched in 2020, the Blade Battery provides enhanced thermal stability and high-temperature resistance compared to conventional ternary lithium batteries. It has passed the industry's rigorous needle puncture test, significantly improving the safety of new energy vehicles.

"The Blade Battery embodies our advancement in new high-quality productive forces. Another example is BNCT, or Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, a cutting-edge precision radiotherapy technology," said Jiang Zhibin, Bishan District's mayor.

"Traditional radiotherapy often fails to distinguish between cancer cells and normal cells, resulting in various side effects, including hair loss. In contrast, BNCT selectively targets cancer cells without damaging surrounding tissues, enabling the treatment to be completed in just 1-2 sessions, significantly more convenient than traditional chemotherapy," Jiang added.

Bishan District is driving industrial transformation through innovative initiatives in key sectors, including intelligent connected new energy vehicles, electronic information, and life sciences. Home to 141 regulatory enterprises like CRRC Corporation Limited, the district generates an annual output value exceeding 60 billion yuan (around USD 8.38 billion), with an average growth rate of 16.5% over the past three years.

Bishan has launched policies offering up to 10 million yuan in R&D incentives to encourage innovation. Partnerships with industry leaders such as BYD and China Changan Automobile Group have produced advancements like the Blade Battery and the globally recognized TsingShan DCT transmission.

Emphasizing integration across production, education, research, and application, Bishan collaborates with over 20 universities and 30 laboratories, identifying over 700 patented technological achievements ready for industrialization. Bishan is building a complete R&D-to-production chain in electronic information, attracting top companies like Fosun Sports and Alibaba's Metaverse unit, Yuanjing, to its Digital Economy Industrial Park.

The district is also enhancing regional connectivity with the construction of Chongqing Bishan Airport, set to become an international cargo hub and regional passenger center with an annual capacity of 70 million passengers. "The airport will link key transport hubs, forming a comprehensive logistics and industrial network connecting nationally and globally," Jiang Zhibin, Bishan’s district mayor, explained.

Jiang added, "Using Chongqing Bishan Airport as a catalyst, we aim to develop an airside economic zone that draws industries like logistics and manufacturing, creating a modern industrial city in Chongqing."
