Chongqing - A team from Vietnam's Benh Vien Phu San Thien An, under the guidance of experts from Chongqing HaiFu Hospital, recently performed Vietnam’s first non-invasive uterine fibroid surgery using the HaiFu Knife® focused ultrasound tumor treatment system.
HaiFu Knife®, a high-end medical device developed in China with independent intellectual property rights, utilizes focused ultrasound ablation, a non-invasive therapy widely applied in the clinical treatment of uterine diseases, breast conditions, liver tumors, bone tumors, and soft tissue cancers.
The system works by focusing externally emitted ultrasound waves onto target tissues inside the body. The ultrasound's mechanical, thermal, and cavitation effects generate instant temperatures of 65-100°C, causing irreversible coagulative necrosis of the target tissue.
This approach achieves the goal of non-invasive treatment by vaporizing only the abnormal tissue without cutting, bleeding, or radiation while preserving the integrity and function of normal organs.
HaiFu Knife® technology was introduced to Vietnam in September this year at Benh Vien Phu San Thien An. Anna (a pseudonym), 27, was the first to undergo non-invasive uterine fibroid surgery. Four years ago, a routine check-up revealed fibroids, but she avoided treatment due to a lack of symptoms.
Recently, while preparing for pregnancy, Anna found the fibroids had grown to 32×37×37 mm. Doctors warned that untreated fibroids could hinder conception and recommended focused ultrasound ablation to remove them while preserving fertility.
On October 29, under the guidance of Dr. He Min from Chongqing HaiFu Hospital, the Benh Vien Phu San Thien An team successfully performed the procedure using the HaiFu Knife®. The surgery lasted just 50 minutes, and the ultrasound exposure time totaled 428 seconds.
GS.TS.Nguyen Viet Tien, President of the Vietnam Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, praised the technology, saying, "This technique has saved the Vietnamese people considerable time and money, and it holds significant importance for the development of Vietnam’s healthcare sector."
HaiFu Knife® technology has been exported to 32 countries and regions, with market access granted in 47. The device has helped establish over 400 minimally invasive treatment centers worldwide, benefiting an increasing number of patients globally.
