Chongqing—On November 26, JD Group deepened its commitment to Chongqing by signing multiple cooperation agreements, aiming to strengthen its partnership with the city and support its goal of becoming an international consumption center.
Since the establishment of the JD Logistics Asia No. 1 Chongqing Smart Industrial Park in 2017, JD has consistently expanded its footprint in the region. Earlier this year, Chongqing became the first city in China to feature both a JD Super Experience Store and a fourth-generation JD MALL. This ongoing collaboration aligns with Chongqing's ambition to become an international consumption center city, bolstered by JD’s innovative retail, logistics, and industrial investments.
In May, JD opened its largest and most advanced JD MALL in Chongqing Jiulongpo District, showcasing a unique retail model tailored to modern consumer needs. Unlike traditional malls, this 60,000-square-meter commercial space features over 50 interactive experience zones, enhancing the city’s retail landscape.
“JD MALL represents an evolution from the JD Super Experience Store, with significant improvements in product categories, service models, and customer experiences. Shoppers can explore product functions in an immersive way,” explained a representative of JD MALL Chongqing.
The mall has seen robust growth, fueled by Chongqing's dynamic consumer base. For example, during the launch of the city’s green smart appliance subsidy program in August, JD MALL experienced a surge in demand, even requiring additional checkout counters to handle the crowds.
During this year’s “Double 11” shopping festival, sales of 85-inch and larger televisions surged by 332%, dryers increased by 151%, and central air conditioners grew by 147%. Additionally, gaming-related promotions tied to the popular game “Black Myth: Wukong” drove a doubling of high-performance laptop sales, illustrating how JD integrates entertainment and retail to meet evolving consumer trends.
JD’s logistics hub in Banan District, known as "Asia No. 1 Chongqing Smart Industrial Park," played a crucial role in this year’s “Double 11” festival. Operating 24/7, the facility ensures efficient delivery to households across the region.
As one of Southwest China's largest and most advanced smart logistics centers, the 200,000-square-meter facility manages over 100 categories, ranging from electronics to daily essentials. Its cutting-edge technologies, including automated sorting systems and JD-developed warehouse management software, have significantly enhanced operational efficiency.
This year, the introduction of a new intelligent sorting area increased automation rates to 96%, reducing processing times for a single package to under 10 minutes—five times faster than manual sorting. For customers, this means it takes as little as 30 minutes from placing an order to the package being dispatched. “The strategic location of Asia No. 1 Chongqing Smart Industrial Park makes it a benchmark for modern logistics infrastructure in Southwest China. It will continue to serve as a vital hub for JD’s operations in the region while driving the development of e-commerce logistics across Sichuan and Chongqing,” said a JD representative.
JD’s impact in Chongqing extends beyond retail and logistics. By leveraging big data and integrated supply chains, JD is fostering industrial growth and helping local manufacturers unlock new revenue streams.
In early 2023, JD identified a fast-growing trend in "hanging tissue" and partnered with a leading paper manufacturer in Chongqing to develop a custom product. The collaboration yielded the “Sunflower Oil Painting” hanging tissue, which sold nearly 5 million units within six months. This success prompted the factory to expand its production lines from two to eight, creating a high-growth business segment.
JD is also advancing supply chain innovation across key sectors, including household appliances, food, beverages, and automobiles. For instance, JD’s city-wide appliance trade-in service offers seamless delivery, installation, and removal. Similarly, its temperature-controlled cold chain network supports the nationwide distribution of Chongqing’s renowned hotpot ingredients, ensuring freshness and quality for consumers across China.
As JD Group and Chongqing deepen their collaboration, the city is poised to achieve new heights in its journey toward becoming an international consumption center city.
