Southwest China's Major Trade Hub for Global Imported Frozen Food Opens

By RAN ZHENG|Dec 05,2024

Chongqing - The Landford (Chongqing) Smart Supply Chain Industrial Park, backed by the Ministry of Commerce and a key project for the city, officially opened its doors on November 29.

Leveraging Chongqing’s strong fresh food industry and Southeast Asia’s supply advantages, the park aims to become a key hub for processing, trading, and sourcing fresh and frozen foods while developing a high-end cold chain cluster and distribution center.

As a key part of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) in Chongqing, the industrial park, located within the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, spans approximately 100,000 square meters with an investment of around 1 billion yuan (about USD 140 million).

The Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park is the launch point for the China-Europe Railway Express and ILSTC, which will connect over 100 cities across Asia and Europe by rail and reach 500 ports in 120 countries via rail-sea intermodal service, forming a global transportation network.

Landford Group specializes in industrial park investment, development, and operations. Through a joint venture with Brunei, it exports over 100 aquatic products to East Asia, with expertise in biotechnology and seed selection.

On the same day, the smart cold storage facility at the Landford (Chongqing) Smart Supply Chain Industrial Park was also launched. The cold storage has a capacity of approximately 60,000 cubic meters and a total logistics throughput of 150 pallets per hour.

"Equipped with cutting-edge international automation systems and high-density storage solutions, the facility integrates technologies like fully automated vertical racking and Automated Guided Vehicles, allowing for the automatic handling of cold chain goods and real-time digital tracking of logistics operations," said a relevant person in charge of the Landford Group.

In 2023, the Landford (Brunei-Chongqing) Trade Service Center was inaugurated at the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park. The center is set to become a vital platform for trade between Chongqing and Brunei, leveraging the ILSTC's logistics and transportation capabilities to streamline and enhance trade exchanges.

In June, Landford and Chongqing Pan-European Railway Port Management Co., Ltd. facilitated the first inland import of frozen aquatic products from Brunei, using the ILSTC, with on-site customs clearance at Chongqing Railway Port.

"The Industrial Park is a milestone in our response to the Belt and Road initiative. Looking ahead, we aim to attract more high-quality domestic and international resources to the park, creating a hub that integrates logistics, information flow, technology, and capital. This will contribute to the high-quality development of the regional economy," said Chen Jiantao, CEO of Landford Group.
