Chongqing's New Testing Platform Set to Revolutionize Vehicle Testing

By HUXIN LUO|Jan 10,2025

Chongqing - China’s automotive industry is set for a breakthrough with the development of an innovative platform by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area. The new Integrated Intelligent Chassis Automated Testing Platform promises to revolutionize vehicle testing.

According to Dr. Yu Yinghong, Senior Chassis Test Engineer of CAERI, the Platform utilizes autonomous driving algorithms, robotic drivers, and automatic testing software to perform intelligent chassis testing tasks.

The automotive chassis testing platform is a device or system designed to evaluate and test the performance of vehicle chassis. It automatically generates various driving conditions, enabling engineers to assess how the chassis performs under different environmental and operational scenarios.

Yu explained that traditional testing platforms create physical obstacle environments based on specific standards and rules, with human drivers performing tests in a fixed sequence of tasks. However, this approach presents risks such as vehicle skidding and rollover, as well as the need to reset the testing environment after some unideal tests, which can be time-consuming and inefficient.

However, by creating a virtual testing environment within the vehicle’s coordinate system, the Platform removes the need for physical obstacles and simplifies environment reconfiguration, boosting test efficiency. Advanced algorithms are also used to fine-tune testing conditions for optimal results.

As China’s first Integrated Intelligent Chassis Automated Testing Platform, the Platform emphasizes large-scale automated test scheduling compared to other companies. Yu said that although some European commercial driving robot companies and domestic firms such as IM and Changan Auto have showcased unmanned testing demonstration videos and proposed unmanned testing solutions, these solutions have not focused on large-scale automated test scheduling.

According to Yu, one of the highlights of the Platform is its ability to automatically schedule large-scale tests, selecting cases based on test progress and introducing faults as needed. This flexible approach replaces the fixed checklist method, making the testing process more efficient and adaptable to various needs.

Yu explained that the Platform’s large-scale automated test scheduling can automatically select testing cases based on the progress of the test and introduce different types of faults as needed rather than following a fixed test checklist step by step. This scheduling method makes the testing process more flexible and efficient and can address a variety of testing needs.

Yu added that the development of The Platform consists of two phases: unmanned testing in the testing area and the automation of the testing process. He mentioned that the team has already successfully validated the unmanned testing system in the testing area.
