Chongqing—On January 19, the press conference for the third session of the sixth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held. The conference focused on the integrated development of urban and rural areas and the promotion of rural revitalization.
In 2024, Chongqing's grain output reached a 16-year high, surpassing 22 billion jin, reflecting a 0.44% increase. The rapeseed planting area expanded to 5.695 million mu, producing a total of 628,000 tons, a rise of 3.6%.
Chongqing's food production practices, including Fuling pickled mustard and Three Gorges citrus, were highlighted during the press conference.

It was announced that Chongqing citrus has developed the largest citrus germplasm resource garden in China and the second largest in the world. 65% of the main citrus varieties in China originate from Chongqing.
Wu Kangxuan, Chairman of the Fengjie County CPPCC, summarized the area's success in three key areas: continuous upgrading, technological innovation, and industry integration.
He shared that Three Gorges citrus has strengthened its market competitiveness through the "1+N" brand strategy. Three Gorges citrus is leading the charge, supported by regional brands such as Fengjie naval oranges.
Additionally, efforts to integrate the Three Gorges citrus industry with tourism, culture, education, and other sectors have been actively promoted. This includes building a citrus science education base, an international orange museum, and a citrus culture time and space museum. The region also hosts events like navel orange ordering conferences and the national citrus annual conference, attracting a large number of tourists and consumers.
By combining germplasm resources and technology, Chongqing is fostering the coordinated development of the citrus industry regionally and nationally.
Another key aspect of the rural revitalization is agricultural mechanization, where Zhou Jianting, Vice President of Chongqing Jiaotong University, discussed how agricultural industrial roads can better serve agricultural mechanization in Chongqing.
Zhou stated that Chongqing's complex, hilly, and mountainous terrain requires scientific planning. For key agricultural production areas, efforts should be increased to renovate roads, enhance road capacity, and ensure safe and smooth travel for large agricultural machinery.
Zhou also emphasized the importance of leveraging corridor logistics to enhance transportation in rural revitalization. He called for the acceleration of logistics infrastructure for industries such as automobiles and agricultural products, ensuring their access to both domestic and international markets.
