Chongqing - The 2025 Chongqing Municipal Work Report emphasizes strengthening the opening up of China’s inland regions, boosting international cooperation, and speeding up the creation of an international trade and economic hub.

Mars Wei, General Manager of Cushman & Wakefield Chongqing, shared on January 20 that, as Chongqing aims to become an international trade hub, foreign firms like Cushman & Wakefield are using their global resources to help local businesses expand internationally and improve the city’s business environment and services.

In the past year, Chongqing businesses have shown strong interest in expanding abroad, targeting markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries. Wei said Cushman & Wakefield supports this expansion by organizing forums and helping local businesses enter global markets.

Wei mentioned that in 2024, the company organized the Southeast Asia Four-Country Investment Roadshow Summit Forum, inviting over 100 Southeast Asian investors to connect with domestic companies. The company also facilitated opportunities for overseas investors to explore projects in Africa through collaborations in Chongqing.

Wei said that Chongqing's external opening up has become more diverse in 2024, creating great opportunities for foreign companies in the city.

For example, visits from national leaders, such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chính, have showcased Chongqing's unique charm on the international stage.

The future establishment of more foreign consulates in Chongqing will boost economic and cultural exchanges and enhance the city’s global connectivity.

The increase in international tourism and business exchanges has given Chongqing more opportunities to showcase its culture and economic vitality, offering foreign investors a direct view of its unique business environment.

Wei further pointed out that in 2024, both the actual use of foreign investment and the establishment of new foreign-funded enterprises continued to grow. Many high-quality enterprises, including the world-renowned foreign insurance company AIA, have set up operations in Chongqing Yuzhong.
