Consul Generals in Chongqing Speak Highly of Govt Work Report

Chongqing - The 2025 Government Work Report has sparked enthusiastic responses among consul generals in Chongqing, particularly regarding its focus on opening up, intelligent connected new energy vehicles (NEVs), and urban development.

Anthony Preston, Consul General of the UK in Chongqing, emphasized the potential for UK-China collaboration in achieving net-zero goals, particularly in the automotive sector, such as Chang'an's R&D center in Birmingham. The Consul General also expressed optimism for future cooperation between the two countries in urban planning and sustainable development: "I think the development of cities will require even greater inputs from these sorts of experts combining private sector expertise, academic expertise, with government decision making."

Ivan Frank Olea, Consul General of the Philippines in Chongqing, commended the report's comprehensive approach to opening up and development. The Consul General expressed his keen expectation for the upgraded China-ASEAN free trade area. He also noted the growing export of Chongqing's top-tier EVs to the Philippines, calling it a "welcomed development" that aligns with green energy solutions and lower energy costs needed by the Philippine market.

Fabio Schina, Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, celebrated the 55th anniversary of Italy-China relations and praised Chongqing's industrial potential. He highlighted existing collaborations, such as Chang'an's design center in Italy, and expressed confidence in Italy's ability to contribute to Chinese automotive innovation through design and supply chain expertise: "Chang'an set a very important design center in Italy—Italy has a lot to offer Chinese car manufacturers when it comes to design."

The consul generals' remarks underscore Chongqing's growing role as a hub for international cooperation, particularly in green technology and urban development, aligning with the goals of the 2025 Government Work Report.
