CMAL Teams Up with Changan and BYD for Priority Access to Southeast Asia Orders | Insights

By YUTING CHEN|Mar 12,2025

Chongqing - Chongqing Changan Minsheng APLL Logistics Co., Ltd. (CMAL) recently launched CCM Logistics Co., Ltd. in Bangkok, Thailand. The new company will support Changan automobile exports, boosting the global reach of Chongqing-made vehicles.

Deng Gang, CEO of Thailand CCM, said in an exclusive interview with Bridging News that the launch of Thailand CCM marks a major milestone for CMAL, signaling its shift from a local firm to a global player. He described the new company as both a testing ground for its overseas strategy and a key step toward enhancing global capabilities.

As CMAL's first overseas venture, Deng emphasized Southeast Asia's fast-growing EV market, noting Thailand's goal to achieve a 30% EV market share by 2030.

He highlighted Thailand's strategic role as ASEAN's logistics hub and automotive manufacturing center, offering access to emerging markets like Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This position allows CMAL to respond swiftly to regional demand and cut cross-border logistics costs.

Cutting logistics costs for automakers

Deng further explained that Thailand CCM leverages the ASEAN automotive production base to develop an integrated international logistics service model, covering inbound factory logistics, in-plant logistics, finished vehicle logistics, spare parts logistics, and comprehensive logistics services.

This integrated approach reduces intermediary steps and lowers the overall logistics costs for automotive companies.

He added that the company plans to build a regional collaborative supply chain based on lean and intelligent operations, using multimodal transport methods such as sea and rail to create a responsive and agile freight network.

“Our goal is to upgrade CMAL from a logistics executor to a supply chain integrator,” Deng emphasized. This model offers significant advantages in Southeast Asia’s highly fragmented logistics market, enabling CMAL to provide solutions that reduce the complexity of overseas manufacturing for automotive companies.

Forming alliances with Changan and BYD

While the Southeast Asian market holds vast potential in logistics and supply chains, it also faces challenges such as complex geography, fragmented infrastructure, and significant policy differences.

Deng stated that CMAL effectively addresses these challenges through strategies such as building a "hub-and-node" system, developing a digital customs clearance platform, which shortens clearance times by over 30%, and piloting new energy transport tools.

“Moreover, our core competitive advantage lies in the synergy within Chinese industry chains, our end-to-end integrated service capabilities, and regional resource integration,” Deng noted.

CMAL has formed a "logistics-manufacturing" alliance with Chinese automakers such as Changan Automobile and BYD, giving it priority access to orders from their Southeast Asian factories. The company also adapts its mature domestic smart warehousing and unmanned delivery technologies to Southeast Asia, forming a technological edge.

Deng also revealed that CMAL will actively support China's Belt and Road Initiative and intensify its collaborative efforts for international expansion. "Our goal is to become a world-class green, smart logistics technology company," he said. In the future, CMAL will continue to deepen its presence in Southeast Asia while expanding into markets such as the Middle East and South Asia, building a broader global network.

CMAL is a logistics company based in Chongqing, China, that specializes in automotive logistics. It is a joint venture between Changan Automobile, Minsheng Logistics, and APLL, focusing on providing comprehensive supply chain solutions for the automotive industry.
