Chongqing – On March 28, 38 international journalists from nine countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and regions visited the Western China International Communication Organization (WCICO).

Their visit to the Belt and Road Journalists' Station, a key part of WCICO’s mission to connect Chongqing with the world, marked the launch of an important international communication initiative.

Upon entering the WCICO park, the journalists explored various areas, including the leisure zone, modern studios, reporter offices, and display spaces, among other functional areas.

Many of the reporters were visiting Chongqing for the first time, and they were struck by the city’s dynamic energy and vibrant atmosphere.

"The city is beautiful, well-organized. The streets, the people, the buildings, the vehicle arrangements, the food – everything is very nice. And there are so many activities going on in Chongqing. I'm really impressed," said Daniel Munda Amara, National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasters' Association.

He also praised the media environment in Chongqing. "When you, as a journalist, arrive here at this media center, you feel at home," he noted.

"There are plenty of materials available to use and many things you can work on. I believe there's a lot we can learn about how to do more," he added.

For Priyanka Thushari Welagedara, Assistant Director at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, the world of television broadcasting is the most captivating field.

She highlighted the innovative approach of modular journalism in Chongqing, where both TV and radio stations are integrated. She emphasized the significant role of government collaboration in fostering these media partnerships, viewing this as a valuable opportunity to bridge connections between her country’s people and the global audience.
