Chongqing - In the early hours of Thursday, the Chongqing Blue Sky Rescue Team, deployed to Myanmar’s earthquake-stricken region for international aid, detected signs of life at a collapsed hotel site in Mandalay. The discovery was made using advanced technology and expert analysis, prompting the team to launch an overnight rescue operation.

Led by Luo Mingwen, on-site commander and team leader, the Chongqing Blue Sky Rescue Team conducted multiple rounds of intensive search and rescue at the scene.

At 7:32 p.m. on Wednesday, team member Tan Xiaobo first detected a life signal using a specialized detection device. To confirm the finding, radar life detectors were brought in from nearby rescue teams, and a 3D scan verified the presence of the signal at the same location.

Later, radar experts from the Chinese Blue Sky Rescue Team arrived on-site, further confirming the life signals. Drawing from the data and accounts provided by families anxiously awaiting news, rescuers determined that individuals were likely still trapped beneath the rubble and launched targeted rescue efforts.

The Chongqing team had arrived in Mandalay at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday and immediately began search operations. Utilizing life-detection equipment, they discovered more than a dozen bodies at the ruins of a collapsed apartment complex. The four-building residential compound, each originally 11 stories high, was reduced to six leaning stories following the powerful quake.

Additionally, in response to the ongoing rescue needs in Myanmar, a second group of ten members from the Chongqing Blue Sky Rescue Team departed on Thursday morning. Equipped with disinfection gear, they are joining efforts to support ongoing earthquake relief operations.

As of Thursday morning, the Information Team of the Myanmar State Administration Council reported that the earthquake has claimed 3,085 lives, injured 4,715 people, and left 341 missing.
