Chongqing – Chongqing has issued its first local standard for energy storage—DB50/T 1729-2025—focused on the operation and maintenance of distributed electrochemical storage stations. Developed by Qingan Energy Storage, it takes effect on June 24, 2025.
This new standard addresses the lack of operational and maintenance guidelines for Chongqing's small and medium-sized energy storage stations. It marks a significant step forward for the energy storage industry, promoting safe, efficient, and intelligent operations. Additionally, it offers a model for the operation and maintenance management of distributed energy storage.

Statistics show that the global energy storage sector experienced significant growth in 2024, with installations reaching 169 gigawatt-hours (GWh), marking a 76% increase from the previous year. China led this expansion, accounting for 43% of the global market share, followed by the United States at 14%. Other notable contributors included India, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Australia.
The surge was driven by advancements in battery technologies, particularly lithium-ion systems, which now dominate new deployments. Emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa also began scaling up, diversifying the global energy storage landscape.
According to Qingan Energy Storage, this standard aligns with the current trends in energy storage, focusing on user-side distributed power stations. It creates a comprehensive technical framework covering operation, inspection, maintenance, emergency response, and documentation management.
Unlike the national standard GB/T 40090-2021, this new standard introduces key improvements in management precision, process coverage, and safety risk mitigation.
For example, the technical specifications for the remote centralized monitoring system have been introduced. These specifications outline the system configuration requirements, including thermal imaging monitoring and intelligent alarms, and define key indicators such as inspection cycles, safety tool setups, and maintenance procedures. The guidelines are both efficient and instructive.
The policy will strengthen Chongqing's position in the national energy storage landscape, providing a robust framework for the safe and economically beneficial operation of user-side energy storage projects. It also supports the city's goal of becoming a leading hub for national energy storage applications, driving the industry's growth towards standardization, intelligence, and large-scale development.
