On June 1, the "Earth's Literary Spirit" Eco-Literature Writers' Field Trip to Chongqing, co-hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the China Writers Association, was officially launched.
As part of the National Environment Day 2025 event, this field trip focuses on the theme "Supporting High-Quality Development with High-Level Protection." A group of renowned writers will visit the frontlines of ecological conservation in Chongqing's Tongliang, Yongchuan, Beibei, and Yubei districts. There, they will witness firsthand Chongqing's vibrant practices in ecological protection and restoration, the implementation of the "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" philosophy, the development of a "Zero-Waste City," the promotion of ecological culture, and the advancement of high-quality socio-economic development through "ecology+" initiatives.

This field trip aims to harness the power of literature to craft exceptional works that highlight Chongqing's significant efforts in ecological civilization and environmental protection in the new era and on the new journey. These writings will inspire collective action to promote mainstream ecological values and further the vision of a Beautiful China.
The "Earth's Literary Spirit" Eco-Literature Writers' Field Trip has unfolded across multiple provinces and cities over successive years, spanning Shanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai, Liaoning, Yunnan, Chongqing, Shandong, Inner Mongolia, and Guangxi. It has yielded influential literary works that reflect the spirit of the times and pioneer new cultural trends, using the power of literature to promote the concept of ecological civilization and inspire greater environmental awareness among the public.

In recent years, with the goal of building itself into a pilot zone for a Beautiful China, Chongqing has continuously improved the ecological environmental quality across its region, solidly reinforced the critical ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and strived to create landmark achievements in ecological civilization with Chongqing's distinct identity and nationwide influence. In 2024, the water quality in the Chongqing section of the main stream of the Yangtze River maintained Class II standards for the eighth consecutive year; 100% of 74 state-controlled sections secured excellent and good water quality for the second consecutive year; the PM2.5 concentration dropped by 8.4%, with 333 days of good air quality recorded; safe utilization rate of key construction land remained at 100% for the fourth consecutive year; 28 districts and counties achieved near-complete dynamic elimination of rural black and odorous water bodies. These accomplishments reflect significant progress in building a Beautiful Chongqing and mark a notable step forward in the establishment of a pilot zone for a Beautiful China.
Chongqing has long placed a strong emphasis on the development of eco-literature, successively hosting flagship initiatives such as the "Sichuan-Chongqing Writers' Environmental Protection Tour" and the "Earth's Literary Spirit" Eco-Literature Writers' Field Trip to Chongqing. These programs bring together renowned writers from across the country, offering them the opportunity to visit key ecological conservation sites. Through these immersive experiences, writers witness firsthand the implementation of the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" in Chongqing. Armed with their pens as instruments of expression, these writers have created a wealth of masterpieces that reflect green development and ecological governance. Their works fully demonstrate literature's unique power to advance environmental awareness and forge social consensus, confirming eco-literature as a defining trend in contemporary literary creation.
Leading officials from the Department of Communications and Education of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, China Environment News, Chongqing Ecology and Environment Bureau, and Chongqing Writers Association attended the launch ceremony and delivered speeches.
