Chongqing Shared Experience in Strengthening Ecological Protection and Restoration

Chongqing - On June 4th, the China Ecological Culture Forum was held at the Yuzhou Hotel in Chongqing. This event was also part of the National Environment Day (June 5th) and the Beautiful China Publicity Week.

Under the theme "Promoting Ecological Culture and Building a Beautiful China," the forum conducted discussions and exchanges centered on the research, inheritance, promotion, dissemination, transformation, and utilization of ecological culture. Participants shared theoretical research findings and practical experiences in the field of ecological culture.

GUO Fang, a leading Party member and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment; CHEN Xinwu, a Member of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Executive Vice Mayor of Chongqing's Municipal People's Government; ZHU Di, Vice-Chairperson of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles; and QIU Huadong, Vice Chairperson of the China Writers Association, attended and addressed the event.

This meeting emphasized that advancing ecological culture development helps promote the prosperity of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics and pools strong spiritual strength for building a Beautiful China. It emphasized the need to thoroughly understand and grasp the profound significance of ecological culture development, earnestly enhance the initiative and proactivity in advancing it, and accelerate the formation of nationwide public eco-consciousness.

CHEN Xinwu emphasized that vigorously promoting green development, building a beautiful Chongqing, safeguarding the ecological security of the Yangtze River, and jointly establishing the Bashu Cultural Tourism Corridor are among the critical directives of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In recent years, Chongqing has comprehensively advanced a "nine-pronged" governance initiative to strengthen ecological protection and restoration. The city has vigorously driven the transformation of its manufacturing sector toward high-end, intelligent, and environmentally friendly development, while promoting green lifestyles. These efforts have led to continuous ecological improvements and greener, low-carbon modes of production and daily life.

Centered on enriching people's lives and nurturing the city through culture, Chongqing established the country’s first Ecological Civilization Communication Research Center. It has also hosted the Yangtze River Civilization Forum for two consecutive years and sustained thematic publicity campaigns, fostering a strong social commitment to ecological progress.

Furthermore, the city is accelerating the transformation and utilization of its ecological and cultural resources. By integrating "eco-culture + industry," Chongqing aims to boost the development of the Bashu Cultural Tourism Corridor and deepen the convergence of ecological culture with the tourism sector.

CHEN also emphasized that fostering and promoting ecological culture is a crucial part of putting the Xi Jinping Thought on Eco-Civilization into practice. "Our city will take this forum as an opportunity to strengthen coordinated collaboration with other provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities," he stated. "Together, we will advance the exchange and mutual learning of ecological culture, jointly promote the protection, inheritance, and utilization of cultural and natural heritage, and build a Beautiful China."

At the forum, multiple experts and scholars delivered keynote reports. Representatives from the environmental authorities of Chongqing Municipality, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jiangsu Province, Jiangxi Province, and Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, shared local practices and distinctive experiences in ecological culture development.
