The promotion conference, a major part of the World Environment Day series activities, was jointly organized by the China Environmental Protection Industry Association and the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, attracting around 300 participants.
In recent years, Chongqing has made significant progress in green and low-carbon development, with an average annual energy consumption growth rate of 2.4%, supporting an economic growth rate of 5.6% per year. The water quality of the Chongqing section of the Yangtze River has maintained Class II standards for eight consecutive years. Air quality has remained excellent for more than 325 days per year, and urban black and odorous water bodies have been dynamically eliminated.
The cluster aims to serve as a collaborative platform for government, enterprises, academia, and research institutions, accelerating technological innovation and industrial upgrading within the green and low-carbon environmental protection industry. This initiative is expected to position Chongqing as a model city for sustainable development within the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
During the event, representatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, China Environmental Protection Industry Association, Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, and the Municipal Economic and Information Commission jointly inaugurated the Chongqing Low-Carbon Environmental Service Industry Cluster.
The cluster, jointly developed by the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Municipal Economic and Information Commission, and the Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, will utilize Liangjiang New Area as its core base. It integrates resources from environmental industry parks and smart technology hubs, creating a comprehensive innovation platform that covers green, low-carbon services, environmental consulting, and environmental management solutions.
A Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment spokesperson noted that the cluster aims to leverage top enterprises and research institutions to build a national environmental big data platform and a world-class hub for environmental products and services. By the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the goal is to cultivate a group of internationally leading green low-carbon enterprises.
By aligning policies, pooling resources, and facilitating technological advancements, the cluster will drive Chongqing's green economic transformation, providing a replicable and scalable model for other regions in China.
The establishment of the Chongqing Low-Carbon Environmental Service Industry Cluster is expected to expand cooperation opportunities in the environmental protection industry, stimulate enterprise innovation, and accelerate the application of green low-carbon technologies. Moving forward, stakeholders will utilize this platform to enhance collaboration efficiency and promote sustainable development, contributing to China's ecological civilization goals.
