By SHIHAN YANG|Jun 10,2025

Chongqing—China is hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival once again after a seven-year interval. The festival will take place in Yongchuan District, Chongqing, from July 3rd to 7th, as announced by Deputy Director Qin Zhengui of the National Film Administration.

Under the theme "Cinematic Technology · SCO Spirit," this edition will highlight achievements in film technology and development among SCO nations. It aims to foster cultural exchanges and cooperation using film as a bridge.

The opening and closing ceremonies will be held on July 3rd and 7th, respectively, at the 5,000-square-meter soundstage in Yongchuan Science & Technology Film Studio. Additionally, a special "Dreamscape" Red Carpet event will take place on the evening of July 7th in the studio's 3,000-square-meter virtual production stage. Leveraging VP curved screens and XR extended reality technology, this immersive experience will transport filmmakers on a journey from "vast stardust to cyberpunk".

Film Awards

The festival will present the Jinshancha (Golden Camellia) Awards across ten categories: Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Music, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Special Jury Prize. Each participating country has nominated one film expert to serve on the jury, chaired by Mr. Ren Zhonglun from China.

China's competition entries are "Bazaar Celebration" and "Endless Pursuit". Produced by Tianshan Film Studio, "Bazaar Celebration" depicts the courageous pursuit of dreams and truth among diverse ethnic groups in Kashgar, Xinjiang. "Endless Pursuit" is a compelling drama showcasing the triumph of justice over evil.

Film Screenings

The committee has received 27 films from SCO countries for screening. A curated selection will be shown in cinemas across downtown Chongqing and the Yongchuan District.

Additionally, Yongchuan District will host outdoor movie screenings throughout the area, offering the public free viewings of over 20 excellent films.

Film Cooperation Forum

This forum, themed "Co-Creation, Sharing, and Mutual Benefit," will be held on the afternoon of July 4th at the Yongchuan International Convention & Exhibition Center and will feature two panel discussions.
