Chongqing's 618 E-commerce Festival Breaks Records with 53.42 Billion Yuan in Sales

By ZHAN CHEN|Jul 02,2025

Chongqing—The 2025 Chongqing 618 E-commerce Festival, which has become a key event in the city's digital economy, saw record-breaking network retail sales of 53.42 billion yuan (about 7.53 billion USD), representing a 12.9% year-on-year growth.

Throughout this two-month festival, which brought together over 700 brands and more than 3,000 products, Chongqing further established itself as a bustling e-commerce hub. The festival attracted major MCN organizations, influencers, and enterprises, fostering deep connections across industries, with over 20,000 collaboration intentions reached.

The festival also marked a leap forward in the city's growing role as an international consumer hub. Leveraging the power of digital platforms like Alibaba's Hema, alongside live-streaming influencers, it created substantial online traffic that significantly boosted offline consumption.

The event successfully linked regional product industries with national and global e-commerce platforms, enhancing Chongqing's brand as a rising inland open economic hub and a center for international consumption.

From a financial perspective, the festival featured multiple events to stimulate both consumption and innovation. The 2025 digital economy new consumption conference brought together pioneering brands like Liuyishou Hotpot to share their insights on innovation, while the Ant Consumer Finance collaboration with over 1,000 local merchants helped generate over 10.8 billion yuan in consumption. This collaborative model, blending government, business, and finance, was crucial in pushing forward Chongqing's digital transformation.

The automotive industry, in particular, benefited from the festival. A festival about vehicles connected auto dealerships with over 50 local influencers, offering exclusive car subsidies and immersive shopping experiences. Similarly, the automotive information platform Dongchedi launched an integrated e-commerce model, providing customers with more competitive prices and personalized services.

In terms of the broader e-commerce landscape, the festival underscored Chongqing's role as a digital business frontier, where traditional industries and digital platforms converge. With a focus on cross-industry collaboration, talent development, and technological innovation, Chongqing is well-positioned to continue leading the charge in western China's e-commerce revolution, bringing its dynamic market and digital economy to a global audience.
