With the theme of "Safeguarding the Diversity of Human Civilizations for World Peace and Development", it had attracted international guests, including political figures, scholars, and experts from around 140 countries and regions to attend the event. Why is this civilization dialogue so appealing to the international community? What’s their take on China’s role in safeguarding world peace and development? With these questions, iChongqing interviewed Dr. Long Wei, a Burmese scholar from Mekong News Network of Yunnan International Communication Center for South and Southeast Asia (YICC), who also attended this meeting.

Why is this civilization dialogue so appealing to the international community? Dr. Long Wei brought up two points. One was that it would promote cooperation in multiple fields. He shared one opinion from the famous Burmese writer attending this meeting. The writer said that civilized dialogue provided a chance to set up cooperation in literature. For instance, great works of one nation could be introduced to other countries, which would keep the diversity of civilizations.
Moreover, Dr. Long Wei said many participating political figures, scholars and experts agreed that Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Meeting held in Beijing this time was very important and necessary to boost the exchanges and communication among different civilizations especially when the world is facing an increasing number of conflicts and wars due to lack of understandings and effective and civilized measures and actions among countries to address problems. Therefore, this meeting is also a good platform to enhance understanding between different countries and link countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and Latin America closer and closer, which will help to reduce misunderstandings and frictions.

When asked what impressed him most about the meeting, as a scholar engaged in cross culture exchanges and communication between China and Myanmar, Dr. Long Wei said that a saying from a European scholar at the stage that “Chinese dream is not only for Chinese people but also for international community dedicated to cross-culture exchanges and communication between China and other civilizations ” touched him mostly. In his opinion, the Chinese dream is about making China more developed and its people better off; meanwhile, a more developed China will also benefit not only the international community engaged in cross-cultural exchanges and communication, but also countries that have close and deep cooperation with China.
What were the international guests' impressions of China? According to Dr. Long Wei's introduction, before the meeting, international delegations visited numerous cultural sites in China, where they were impressed by the efforts to preserve cultural relics and heritages, which carry forward its 5000-year civilization. Many of them expressed their wish to learn from China and conduct international cooperation in this field.
At the same time, China's role in safeguarding world peace and development had also impressed them. Dr. Long Wei said that as a big country with a 5000-year-old civilization, China has always made a great contribution to world peace. Meanwhile, China has gained influence worldwide through mutually beneficial global cooperation like the BRI, to push forward development for other countries.
