Chongqing - On September 21, the Santa Cruz Screaming Tour concluded triumphantly in Chongqing, uniting elite skateboarders from around the world for an extraordinary celebration of skate culture amidst the city’s distinctive 8D landscape. Leading the delegation were professional skaters Tom Asta and Maurio McCoy, accompanied by Santa Cruz team manager Eric Palozzolo.
Tom Asta, widely recognized for his technical street skating, has been nominated for Thrasher Magazine's "Skater of the Year" and is known for his consistent video parts and competition successes. Maurio McCoy, acclaimed for his powerful and fluid style, has starred in numerous high-profile video projects and is considered one of the most influential street skaters of his generation. "Chongqing is unreal—the energy, the terrain, it is the best skating spot," expressed Asta. McCoy added, "It reminds me of San Francisco but on another level. The hills, the stairs… It's a playground." Both athletes praised the local skaters, noting, "The young generation here is energetic and talented. You can feel the scene growing fast." Palozzolo echoed their enthusiasm: "The warmth we’ve experienced and the passion for skateboarding in China left our whole team inspired. Events like this aren't just about skating—they’re about building a global community, and I just can't wait to be coming back in China."
The tour showcased not only Chongqing's unique architectural topography but also highlighted the city’s growing status as an international skate destination. Dozens of local and international skaters sessioned together throughout the day, sharing tricks and fostering cross-cultural connections. An event organizer emphasized, "Our goal was to showcase Chongqing’s vibrancy and topographic uniqueness while making skateboarding more accessible. We want every young person to feel welcome to try this exciting sport."
As skateboarding continues to gain momentum in China, Chongqing stands at the forefront—a city where challenging terrain meets infectious energy. The event closed with a clear invitation: the world is welcome to skate Chongqing’s slopes, and a new generation is encouraged to step outside and join the movement.
